Merrick, L. TT Sept. 11.—Holmea Nart Narwood, of Merrick Avenue, Merrick, came te hie bome today minoa jewelry > valued at $900 and a wallet that contained nearly $100. It is be¬ lieved that he was drugged and robbed in Manhattan on Monday night.
According to hie own story Narwood had been visiting in New York for sev¬ eral days and in tbe afternoon of Mon¬ day he started downtown from Broad¬ way and Forty-second Street. What happened aftar that is only hazy in bia recollection.
"I don't recollect that I met any¬ one," he said, "but 1 bad just .dined 'down town, "rbe next thing I remem¬ ber definitely waa awakening on tbe aidewalk in Bleecker Street, near West Broadway with a swollen head and dreary eyea. I believe I was given I dope." j
Narwood awakened in Bleecker: Street at aboof 1 o'clock on Tueaday morning. A valoaUe scarf pin, die-1 mond rin^a and tie cla8<p and a gold | edged wallet with his initials set in diamonds were missing. His hat and gold-headed cane were missing alao. He had 70 centa left in hia pockets. He then went to a hotel, where he found a valaable gold cigarette caee studded witb diamonda. Thia waa tbe only jewelry that remained of the eight or ten piecea which he had when he left bis bome.

A number of Freeportera who were in the city Saturday night have a good word for the local trolley company. Thay. took the train out to Hempetead expecting to connect with the laet trol¬ ley to Freeport, but were delayed an hour by a wreck at Floral Park and were atranded in Hempatead at one o'clock. They called at tbe trolley company's ofiRce and a apecial trip waa made for them, carrying eaeh paaaen¬ ger to the stop nearest his home.
This was a nice act of accomgnoda- tion by the trolley company aa the trip was of course a financial losa.

Henry P. Keith, who ia tbe D« cratic State Committeeman ttom tfe district, tenderec) his resignation aa Nassaa County Attorney to the Board of Soperviaora Monday morning. Keith waa appointed to the office on Febra¬ ary 26, after tke removal of Edward J. Deaay, who wae tbe former County Attorney. Tho appointment of Keith on February 26 wae due to tbe alliance whicb Cbairman Chriat bad formed witb tbe Republican Superviaor from the town of Hempatead, Uorria F. Ctaft. Tbe two Democratic Sopervia- ors, James H. Cocks and Pbilip J. Christ were the leaders of opposite factiona and the alliance of the one Democratic Supervisor, Chriat, with the Republican Supervisor, Morria F. Craft, enabled tke Democratic organiz¬ ation to appoint Keith to tbia oflfice. Since tbat time the aiHance between Christ and Craft hae been broken, and the Republican Superviaor, Craft, haa formed an alliance witb Superviaor Cocka, giving him the majority in the ervisors.
It haa been announced that Sbper- vieor Cocka would thia morning intro¬ duce a reaolution declaring Keith'a office as Coanty Attorney vacant, and when the Board was called for' ita regular meeting this morning Soper- I visor Cocks had already prepared I a typewritten resolution declaring Keith's office vacant. Before the reso- I lution was introduced, however, the Clerk of the Board arose and read I Keith'a reaignation, to take effect im¬ mediately.
Keith'a letter waa addressed toXJbair- man Cbiiat of the Board, and tbe laat paragraph of tbe letter, when read, caused considerable amusement. It waa as follows:
"My time will be ao folly occupied doring the coming Presidential cam¬ paign that it willhe impossible for me to devote the time to the poaitiob which ita importance jostifies. It may, therefore, be well aaid tbat my reaignation ia doe to tbe preaaure of politica."
The reaignation wae unanimously accepted, and the office declared va¬ cant. The poaition carriea a aalary of $3,600 per annum.—Eagle.
