Wallace and Con¬ atable Tbomas W. Murray. Nieoli's place waa found open at about 11:80 Satarday night by Constable Murray. Several men wera in tba plaee, but Nieoli protested tbat they were not customers. When the Constable in¬ formed Nieoli be would be required -to go before a Justice be protested. Marray did not want to eall Juatiee Norton rom Wantagh, wbere be re¬ sides, so he told Nieoli be woald take bis name for appearance after. He claims tkat Nicoli ofTered him $6 to "fix mattera" with Officer Ira H. Baker aa a witness. The Conatable told tbe saloon keeper, he saya, that nothing eoald be "fixed." S hen the decia¬ ion waa rendered Chief Wallace inaiat- ed upon the retam to bim ef tbe mon¬ ey which had been turned ovar to the Judge. After conaiderable argu¬ ment the money waa given to Chief Wallace and the caae will probably be broaght to the attention of the Grand Jury.
