500 Enjoyed Welcome Week Barbecue
To Kick Off Fall Activities
Special to the Rambler
As part of Welcome Week festivities, the
Student Affairs Staff, the Student Government
association, and the Campus Activities Board
scheduled a lunchtime barbecue with a reggae
concert by Peter Tosh and The Tosh Band. Over
500 hundred students and staff enjoyed the fun
and food on September 7. Games were scheduled
and novelty prizes were awarded. Even the weath-erman
cooperated by scheduling a beautiful day
for the campus community to mingle.
The Student Affairs Division scheduled
Open House receptions in the various areas of the
campus: Outside Clinton Hall for Psychological
Services, in Residence Life, in the Administra-tion
for Continuing Education Counseling Serv-ices,
and at the Clinton Hall Counseling Center.
Refreshments were provided in each area to
welcome students and to provide information
about services, courses, and matriculation.
Other activities included a student car
show, roving artists, costumed staff, an outdoor
showing of the movie "Beaches" (which was
sponsored by CAB and was attended by more
than 300 students), and an evening concert with
Peter Tosh and The Tosh Band for a "standing
room only" performance in the Little Theatre in
Roosevelt Hall.
Credit Where Credit Is Due
Last semester, the Inter-
Dormitory Council of The SUNY
Farmingdale planned to present
Dottie Bruey an award for out-standing
participation and service
to IDC. Complications arose and
the new officers awarded Ms.
Bruey the accolade.
Ms. Bruey maintains the
financial records of all of the stu-dent
clubs and organizations on
campus.
