Welcome Back!
Dr. Reill/s Advice To Freshman
Three very important ideas that each freshman should
be aware of are these:
1. Each of you has made a very good choice of college.
In some cases the choice may be accidental, but this
college can provide a marvelous education. For either
transfer to other colleges or for entry into the world of
business or industry, your preparation as a graduate
two years from now can be unmatched. The full benefit
to be derived from your education, of course, will be
your responsibility. But you have started well. Farm-ingdale
is a fine college!
2. Starting college literally does provide a student
with an opportunity for a NEW BEGINNING. What
waS"Or was not—accomplished in high school is of no
importance. You will be evaluated on what is done
here!
So, especially for those who may have squandered past
opportunities, the Farmingdale experience can be a
critical juncture in life. Resolve to achieve the highest
level of success, now!
Dr. William Reilly, V.P. Of Student Affairs
3. The last point about which each freshman should
think is a guarantee that the college offers.
If a student makes a serious effort to succceed aca-demically,
the college will not permit academic failure!
A serious effort in academic work will have several good
results. The student will immediately become acutely
aware of weaknesses and can seek a specific kind of
help. (The help incidentally, is readily available-simply
contact any counselor or someone in the learning center.)
The student, too, will determine the exact level of effort
that is necessary to succeed.
Most important, howr\ . r, is the fact that if you are
willing to work, the college will insure that the work pays
off.
A final word-past records are not important at this
point You can revise your life by simply deciding to be
successful"and then working, uninterruptedly, toward
that goal.
Let us assist you! Together we can make these years
memorable and meaningful for you.
