H O M E ^ M H r O DAY: F U N I N T H E S ON
By Carol Calavetla
Homecoming Day was fun!
Terrific!
Thrilling!
And most of all - Sunny!
Homecoming Day is usually plagued
with rain here at SUNY Farmingdale.
But this year marks a world record for,
it's the second (mind you SECOND) year
in a row when Homecoming Day was
actually nice and sunny!
There has to be a God!
FESTtVITiMS
There were many attractions at
Homecoming this year. There were
carnival games, farm tours, a dunk tank
(Featuring Student Activities Director
Mike Daniels), Magician Phelston Jones,
a legs contest, beer belly contest,
mustache contest, and best of all the
first annual treasure hunt (At least I
HOPE it's annual - it was a lot of fun!)
Music Evmrywhmrm
Music filled the air throughout
Homecoming Day. CAB, SGA, and the
Evening College Association co-sponsored
several popular music
groups. Featured in the Little Theater
from 2:00-4:00 p.m. was the famous
Senior Citizens Pops Orchestra.
Clubs Rmprmsmntmd
Various campus clubs set up booths,
selling everything from hot dogs to candy
apples (YUM!). Several of the booths
presented carnival games as well.
The booths were judged for their
creativity in depicting the "carnival"
theme of the event. First place was a tie
between Restaurant Mgt., and Early
Childhood. Second place prize went to
the Business Club and third place went
to Alpha Beta Gamma.
Hommeoming King and Qummn
ContmMt
This year was different in the respect
that the King and Queen were chosen on
October 10 at the Homecoming Dance
instead on Homecoming Day. The
contest was moved to a weekday night
based on a student survey where many
students said they would prefer the
contest as a weekday event
Fun Tim« Had By All
Everyone who came had an enjoyable
time for there Was something for
everybody, adults and children alike.
One disappointment, though, was the
absence of the Homecoming Parade.
After all, what's a Homecoming Day
without a parade of floats?
Still, everyone who was envolved in
making Homecoming Day so much fun
deserves a round of applause.
By the way, does anyone know a good
dentist? I still have pieces of that
candy apple stuck in my teeth!
