Vol.54 no.8 THE RAMBLER ^ S.U.N.Y AT FARMINGDALE'S STUDENT PRESS
MARCH 30, 1984
F u n d e d t y mandatory student activity fees
GEORGE CARLIN
AT FARMINGD ALE
ONE OF THE BEST therapies
in the world (according to the
latest research) is the good, old-fashioned
belly laugh. It's sort
of the same feeling one gets after
really good sex — relaxed,
happy, relieved, just plain
GOOD.
Anyway, an orgy of laughter
occurred when GEORGE
CARLIN descended upon Nold
Hall here at SUNY Farming-dale,
on Sunday, March 25.
Even his opening act was funny.
The two musicians primed the
audience with lyrical goodies.
Especially enjoyable was their
spoof on Quiet Riot's Cum and
Feel the Noize, Their half hour
renditions went by so quickly, it
seemed as though only a minute
had passed.
When Mr. Carlin (looking fit,
although a bit tired) came on-stage,
the full house of 3500
people roared. From then on,
most of the mammoth crowd
was his to do with as he
wished.
Mr. Carlin's brand of humor
managed to touch just about
everyone,'8ince, for instance, we
all have had the problem of
being stuck behind a slowpoke
in traffic ("Did you ever notice
that the guy in front of you going
below the speed limit is an
IDIOT, and the one going too
fast is a MANIAC?") He finds
all his laughs in these everyday
things.
Some of his material was new,
that is, this reporter had never
heard it before. But, I must ad-mit,
even the old stuff made
me laugh. The only time I didn't
laugh was when Mr. Carlin's
energy seemed to wane. How-ever,
his explanation of "the
200th show in a series of 114"
was enough to make these brief
periods bearable.
