Dorm Week is a period of

Interview With Queen
Miss Nadine Holmone, a senior at
Farmingdale University, has the
honor of being "HOMECOMING
QUEEN - 1974."
In an interview with Nadine, I
found she made me feel quite com-fortable
in her nicely decorated
single room in Dorm A.
Not only is she Home Coming
Queen, but between, being Captain
of the cheerleading team, a major in
Nursery Education, and finding
time for her boyfriend, who
happens to be Assistant Coach of
the Basket Ball Team, she is a very
busy-young lady. She is part of a
.large family and tries to get home to
see them, when she can. Many of
her days start out at eight in the
morning and end past six o'clock in
the evening. One wonders how she
finds time to rest.
Nadine's good friend. Margret
Williamson sponsored her. Not get-ting
a chance to speak with
Margret. I asked Nadine how she
felt, through the events of that day.
The funny thing, (she said) was that
she thought the weetlng at
iQosevelt Hall was for one p.i^ K" finding out that it was tor
• • ^ m . , she got there late. That
mistake added to her nervous an-ticipation
of the days events.
When Nadine was interviewed by
the judges, she seemed both calm
and collected.
When her name was called she
froze, in open mouthed amazement
and bewilderment. Perhaps this
was a bit of the same reaction that
she had last year at the Steak and
mmmmmmmmmBommBmmmmmmmm
Brew Dinner the Cheerleaders had
when they elected her their captain.
It seemed to me that she has a true
interest in her major, (Nursery
Education). So I asked her to des-cribe
it a little bit. The first week of
her course seemed interesting-she
and the other students had to take
the place of the children they later
had to teach, playtime, snacktime.
etc. In ideal situations teachers
took care of them; and they, well. uh.
took care of the teachers Nadine
feels that one has to look through a
childs eyes, think the way a child
thinks, and actually become a child
to be able to truly teach them.
As for her future, Nadine plans to
continue her college education.
Right now she in interested in con-tinuing
to receive her B.A. from
S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook.
Miss Holmone said that she
would like to teach Kindergarten,
first grade students, or sixth grade
students. I asked her why there was
such a differenc in the grades she
had selected. She replyed that the
higher the grades have more of a set
pattern of work, than the lower
grades. She would also like to have
experience in different types of
teaching.
At the end of our interview, I
asked Nadine if she had anything
she wished to say to fellow
students. She thought it over and
after a moment aa,i± "Set a goal for
yourself, know where your limits
are, and do the best you can."
