While awaiting the decision of .
the State Board of Elections, the
village trustees appointed Pat
Romanelli to serve as trustee for
whatever interim period ruled by
the state. The trustee elected at
the special election will serve
until April 1978. The seat will
again be on the March ballot.
According to state election law,
if Trustee Drugan had lived one
day longer no election would have
been required. But, since the seat
became vacant more than 20
days prior to the date for village
elections, a special election must,
be held. The election law also
prevented the election to be held
at the prescribed time in March,
since there was too little time
prior to the election day to
schedule registration days,
petitions, etc.
Petition forms for prospective
candidates are available at the
Village hall. Petitions must be
signed by 5 percent of the voters
in the previous election or no less
than 100 registered voters in the
village. Both candidates and
voters must be residents of the
Village of Farmingdale. Voters
who were registered for the past
General Election in November
are eligible to vote in the village
election without additional
registration. Registration dates
will be announced as soon as they
are set.
At a special meeting of the
Board of Trustees, contracts
were awarded to low bidders on
the Federal Economic
Development Administration
