School Budget
To Be Adopted
The main item on the agenda when the Farmingdale
Board of Education meets next Monday night will be the
official adoption of the 1977- 78 school budget of
$ 28,613,350. This budget, which will go to the voters for
their approval on Wednesday, June 15, is almost $ 250,000
lower than the present budget and will not increase the

Seeks Seat
Helen Spinetta, widow of the
;. late- school- board trustee Roy
Spinetta, officially announced,
her candidacy for the Far­mingdale
Library Board.
" I have lived in Farmingdale
for the past 17 years, 1' she stated.
" Five of my six children have
graduated from the public
schools. My activities in this
community have been St. Kilians
Mothers Club, Columbiettes,
PTA Senior High Executive
Board, Concerned Parents
Committee, Citizens Advisory
Committee - Closing Schools,
Youth Council, The Italian
Cultural Society, . and attend
many civic and taxpayers
organizations.

Child Porn
Bill Slated
' The most precious thing in
this world is a child and we must
do'everything possible to protect
our children from the scum who
would use them in pornographic
films," Assemblyman Philip B.
Healey ( R- Massapequa)
declared today. Healey is a co-sponsor
of the bill that would
make the use of children in
pornographic ' film a class D
felony offense.
The bill has had its third
reading and will be up for a vote
before the Assembly during the
present session.
Healey added: " The care of
children is a sacred trust and
should not be abused by those
who seek to profit through a
commercial network based upon
the exploitation of children. This
bill covers not only the making
and the distribution of por­nographic
films, but the sale of
any other materials depicting
children in such a situation."
The bill defines a child so used
as one below 16 years of age.
This is the second year in a row
that the school budget has called
for no increase in taxes in spite of
higher inflationary costs.
Two incumbent school board
members, Raymond Parcels and
Stanley Martyna, are running for
reelection unopposed for three
year terms.
The proposed library budget of
$ 540,500 is a slight increase from
last year's budget of $ 502,000,
increasing the tax rate 3.8 cents
per $ 100 of assessed valuation or
$ 2.28 per year for a house
assessed at $ 6,000. Total library
taxes at this rate would be $ 32 per
year.
Two library board positions are
open, one for a full five year
term, and the other to fill the
unexpired one year term of
George Fain, who resigned in
March. The candidate receiving
the highest number of votes will
win the longer term and the
second highest vote getter will
win the shorter term.
Three candidates have filed for
the two seats: Helen Spinetta,
Paul Gat to and Edward Lynch,
who was appointed to fill Fain's
seat.
Voting will be held at the
Weldon E. Howitt Junior High
School from 10 a. m. to 10 p. m.
Plan Summer
Music Program
The Music Department of
Farmingdale Schools has an­nounced
that there will. be a
Summer Instrumental Music
Program for presently enrolled
instrumental music students in
grades 4 through 9. This year, the
instruction will be given, at Mill
Lane Junior High School in the
Band Room.
This program, under the
auspices of the Farmingdale
Youth Council, will start the week
of July 5 and end on August 12. A
40 minute weely instructional
class will be offered to all
students who wish to enroll in this
sue week program at a cost of $ 12.
All students will be scheduled
sometime between the hours of 8
a. m. and 12 Noon. Deadline date
is Friday June 10.
