Village Election Tuesday
Farmingdale Village Trustee
Pat Romanelli will seek election
to his trustee seat of the village
board at a special election next
Tuesday, June 28, at Village Hall
from noon to 9 p. m.
The special election is to fill the
seat of Owen W. Drugan. The
elected trustee will serve until
April 1978 and the seat will again
be on the March ballot in the
regular Village Election.
St. Kilian's Priest
The State Board of Elections
ruled that the special election had
to be held. According to state
election law, if Trustee Drugan
had lived one day longer, no
election would have been
required. But, since the seat
became vacant more than 20
days prior to the date for the
regular village elections, the
special election must be held.
Election law also prevented the
election for the vacant seat to be
held at the prescribed time in
March, since there was too little
time prior to the election date to
schedule registration days,
candidates petitions, etc.
Voters who were eligible to
vote in the past General Election
in November are eligible to vote
in the special Village Election as
well as those who registered with
the village. All voters, however,
must be residents of the Incorporated
Village of Farmingdale.

in Bethpage after

Kilian's Holy Name Society and

said the fire was
started in the church vestibule
with a Jflammable liquid, such as
gasoline. He said that neither a
container for the liquid nor signs
of anti- religious or anti- Quaker
activity was found. He said the
meeting house was a hangout
for school children.
The first meeting house was
built by the Quakers and
meetings were held in 1695. They
were the original settlers of the
Farmingdale area, then Hard-scrabble.
This was the third house of
worship built by the Bethpage
Meeting Of the Religious Society
of Friends to be destroyed by
fire.
According to Jean Hubbard,
clerk of the meeting, the previous
meeting house burned down
during the blizzard of 1888. The
first meeting house on the same
location was built In 1740 and was
destroyed by fire in 1820.
Mrs. Hubbard said that no
decision had been made yet
whether to rebuild the building.
She said there were 35 registered
members of the meeting, but that
only 10 or 12 were still active.
