SFFD Elects Leyes Chief
The South Farmingdale Fire
Department held their annual
election of officers on Thursday,
April 7, naming Chief Joseph P.
Leyes to a full term as Chief of
the Department.

GOP To Host
DA Candidate
The Republican candidate for
Nassau District Attorney will be
the guest speaker at the Farmingdale
Republican Club
meeting scheduled to begin at 8
P. M. on Monday, April 18th, at St.
Thomas Episcopal Church on
Conklin Street.
4 ' I think alot" of people are going
to be surprised to discover how
real the issues are in this very
important race," said club
President David Flaumenbaum.
" When Greg Peterson, the
Republican candidate for District
Attorney, pointed out just a few of
the problems we have seen grow
in this County under the
Democrat D. A., even I was
amazed. I never realized how
important the philosophy of the
man in the office actually is in
fighting to prevent the growth of
crime in our communities."
Peterson, who currently serves
as a Councilman in the Town of
Hempstead, was unanimously
endorsed by the more than 1900
Nassau County Republican
committeemen;
calling the Post at 249- 0131 and
sending in a picture to be
published for the contest, if you
wish to have the child's picture
taken for the contest, the Post
will arrange to have it taken free
of charge.
The contest is open to any
Farmingdale area boy or girl
between the ages of 4 and 12.
Master and Miss Hardscrabble
will lead the Hardscrabble Day
Parade at 11 a. m. on May 21 and
each will receive a $ 100 savings
bond. The two runners- up in the
contest will each receive $ 50
savings bonds.
Winners are determined by the
number of votes received from
the Farmingdale Shopping
public. Each dollar spent with
one of the participating merchants
listed in thr centerfold ad
in this week's paper is worth a
vote for one of the contestants.
The merchants will provide the
voting ballots and the votes
may be cast in the ballot
boxes located in the two Farmingdale
Library branches.
Registered for the contest thus

State Senator Owen H. Johnson
will speak at the annual covered-dish
dinner of the Farmingdale-
Bethpage Historical Society on
Sunday, April 24. The society will
observe the two hundredth anniversary
of the State of New
York at the dinner, and Senator
Johnson will note the significant
role of the Senate in the founding
in April 1977. He will also present
a State flag to the local society in
commemoration of the event.
The dinner will be held in
Bicentennial Hall of Northside
School, Farmingdale, beginning
at 6 p. m. Community
residents and friends interested
in attending are asked to call Mm
Laura Gray ( 249- 5714) or Mrs.
Augusta Green ( 249- 0003) for
additional information.
Concert pianist Michael
Habermann will give a special
recital at the Farmingdale Public
Library's South Branch on
Sunday afternoon, April 24, at 3
p. m.
Michael Habermann was born
in Paris, France and has lived in
Canada and Mexico. He studied
with Carlos Vazquez, a pupil of
Egon Petri and M. M. Ponce, in
Mexico and with Barbara
Kupferberg and David Bradshaw
in New York. He gave the
Premiere of Dr. Eugene Glick-man's
Concerto for Piano,
Percussion and Orchestra last
year. He was heard on WNCN in a
special program featuring the
works of Villalobos, Chavez and
other composers. He has given
many solo recitals on Long Island
in which he introduced the music
of Kaikhoshru Sorabji and M. M.
Ponce. He also composes and
teaches piano.
The introduction of works by
Pars! composer Kaikhosru
Shapurji Sorabji in this recital is
of special significance.
Since the 1930' s the composer
has banned public performances
of his music. Michael Habermann
has special permission to
play in public as a result of
Sorabji's having heard a taped
performance of his music by
Habermann. Sorabji is one of the
most prolific and original
composers of the twentieth
century. He has not published
arty of his works, however, since
many years ago.

presentation was sponsored by the Lions Club at the Conklin House
recently.
