Loyalty Day
Parade Set
This Sunday
Commander Wally Wohlars of
Corp. George Benkert Jr. Post
516, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Farmingdale, announced the
final plans for the post's 21st
annual Loyalty Day Parade to be
held this Sunday, April 25, under
the chairmanship of Charles
Monroe.
Assembly for the parade will be
in Ellsworth B. Allen Park on
Motor Ave. at 12: 45 p. m. A
speakers' platform will be
erected in the park by the Town
of Oyster Bay Parks Dept. for
ceremonies and brief remarks to
be made by invited public officials.
Speakers for. the program
include Congressman Jerome
Ambro, State Senator Owen
Johnson, Oyster Bay Councilman
Gregary Carman and Nassau
County Executive Ralph Caso,
who will present a proclamation
to Post 516, honoring them for
their Loyalty Day Parade.
Others on the speakers' platform
will include representatives
of various veteran civic and local
organizations and the Village and
South Farmingdale Fire
Departments.
Following the brief
ceremonies, the parade will start
at about 1: 30 p. m. led by a color
guard form the service
organizations. The route of the
parade will be from Allen Park,
east on Motor Ave. to Main St.,
north on Main St. through the
Village of Farmingdale. The
parade will be reviewed by the
invited dignitaries in front of the
Village Hall, then continue to
Conklin St., turning east on
Conklin to Cherry Street, then
south on Cherry, entering the
parking lot via Wesche Drive,
where it will disband.
Lions Test Eyes
For Glaucoma
For the past four years, the
Farmingdale Lions Cub has
sponsored an annual free
Glaucoma Day, and it has been
enthusiastically received by the
people of Farmingdale and
surrounding areas. If you are
over 40 you are a candidate for
Glaucoma.
Dr. Milton Welt and associates
will oversee the Glaucoma
detection tests, which will be held
on Sunday, April 25 from 10 am
to 2 pm at the Weldon E. Howitt
Jr. High School.
School Budget
Hearing Monday,
No Rate Set Yet
The Farmingdale Board of Education will conduct a
public hearing on its preliminary school budget for the
coming year next Monday, April 26* at 8: 30 p. m. in the
high school, but they will not be able to present the
whole picture or project a tax rate because of ongoing
negotiations with the teachers' union.

' Deacon Bill9 Ordained
The Rev. William L. Willdigg,
son of Mrs. William L. Willdigg,
of 1651 Park Avenue, New Hyde
Park and the late William L.
Willdigg, will be ordained to the
priesthood on Saturday, April 24
7at 11 a. m. in St. Agnes Cathedral,
Rockville Centre. Bishop Walter
P. Kellenberg of the Rockville
Centre Catholic Diocese will
preside.
" Deacon Bill," as he is known
to St. Kilian parishioners, has
assisted in the Farmingdale
Parish for the past 15 months,
delivering many of the Sunday
sermons.
Father Willdigg was educated
at Holy Spirit School, New Hyde
Park; St. Pius X Preparatory
Seminary, Cathedral College,
Douglaston, and Immaculate
Conception Seminary, Huntington.
Father Willdigg
graduated Cum Laude from
Cathedral College and taught at
St. Pius X School, Plainview, for
a year. He was also coordinator
of religious education at St. Pius
X parish.
He will offer his first Mass at
Holy Spirit Church, New Hyde
Park, on April 25 at 2 p. m.
Charles P. Keeney of Immaculate
Conception Seminary
will be the master of ceremonies,
ami the Rev. Joseph P. Granata
of St. John of God, Central Islip,
will be the preacher. A reception
will follow in the school cafeteria.
A dinner for the family will be
held at Antun's in Queens Village.
A concelebrated Mass of
Thanksgiving will also be
celebrated at St. Kiiian's Church,
Farmingdale, on May 2 at 2 p. m.
Brother Vincent Fortunato, OFM
Cap., will be the master of
ceremonies, and the Rev. Donald
R. Sh^ ne, pastor, will be the
preacher. A reception will follow
in the school hall.

Nine more contestants, six
girls and three boys have signed
up for the Master and Miss
Hardscrabble Contest and the
ballots are beginning to roll in at
the two Farmingdale Library
branches and are now being
counted.
Joining the list of contestants
this week are Robert Mothven,
age 5, of 24 Hawthorne St.;
Joseph Carolsella, age 5, of 21
Sherman Rd.; Timothy Dorsey,
age 5, and his sister Susan
Dorsey, age 4, of 209 Radcliffe

budget, the board has reduced
the basis budget from last year's
$ 28,863,057 to a proposed
$ 27,903,836. This figure, however
does not allow for any salary
increase for teachers. These
budget reductions, in spite of
$ 632,538 reduction in anticipated
revenue, could still produce a tax
rate reduction of 45 cents in
Oyster Bay and 43 cents in
Babylon.
According to figures in the
recent school newsletter, a
salary increase of up to three
percent could be granted the
teachers without raising the tax
rate. From three percent to eight
percent would increase the rate
from between 4Vfe cents to 88
cents in Oyster Bay and 31 cents
to 1.57 in the Babylon portion.
