to Farmingdale School District
residents. Both the possibility of
building closings and next year's
budget outlook will be discussed.
At the regular monthly
meeting held/ on February 2,
Board President Robert Weiss
indicated that the matter of
utilization of buildings must be
related to the fiscal outlook for
this year. Weiss indicated that
there are many rumors regarding
school closings but he
assured residents that no
decision had been made at that
point. He further indicated that
no final decision would be announced
at the Thursday meeting
but that the Board would express

The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
will be aided by activities
held in conjunction with the
twelfth annual Farmingdale
Children's Day Brotherhood
small coins collection scheduled
for Sunday, February 22.
As in past years, the youths of
local participating religious
institutions will solicit contributions
within their immediate
home neighborhoods early in the
day. The funds raised will help
expand research which will
ultimately find not only the cause
of juveniile diabetes put also a
cure for this silent killer.
Insulin has been available for
the past fifty years to control
diabetes but relatively little
concerted effort has been exerted
to find its cure. The urgency to
accelerate activity to find its
cause and cure is underscored by
these facts: Juvenile Diabetes. is
growing at the rate of 9 pet.
annually, it is the leading cause
of all new blindness cases, it is a
high risk factor behind heart
gangrene and nerve damage. In
fact, Diabetes is the third leading
cause of death from disease.
Diabetics live a third shorter life -
span than any of their contemporaries.
Beyond the most obvious goal
of the program to provide
youngsters a means of expressing
their genuine concern
for, and awareness of the needs of
other children, there is also a
desire within the adult community
of Farmingdale to
provide a fertile climate where
the positive attitudes of the spirit
and realities of brotherhood can
be nurtured until these young
people can acknowledge their
own roles in life and then will be
ready to take upon themselves a
measure of responsibility for the
quality of life to be desired about
them.
This, farmingdale Children's
Day annual expression of
goodwill eminates from the youth
of the community and is shared
by its sponsor, The Women's
Interfaith Council of Farmingdale.
The program has
always had broad, support from
community churches and
synagogue, Boy and Girl Scout
units cooperate in all kinds of
community service. The Farmingdale
Public Library has
once again graciously has
consented to serve as a collection'
center for all contributions. All
young solicitors may be identifed
by the official cover for their
collection container and by their
identification tags.
