Complaints - about an infestation
of rats continued to be
reported to the Post this week as
more residents called to report
problems with the rodents.
Residents cited incidents of
sighting rats in the vacant field
Music Director
Doris Glahn Dies
Doris Glahn, music teacher
and director of instrumental
music at East Memorial
Elementary School, passed away
Friday, July 16, in her hometown
of Forty Forte, Pa.
Funeral services were held
Monday in Pennsylvania. Miss
Glahn is survived by two
brothers. She was 54.
Miss Glahn began her teaching
career in Pennsylvania in 1944.
She came to Farmingdale in
September, 1963, teaching music
at East Memorial. She has been

She returned to her home on
medical leave of absence from
the school district last Christmas,

adjacent to the V. F. W- parking
lot, along the adjoining railroad
tracks and also at the Sid Farber
Shopping Center on Merritts
Road.
Last week a Fulton Street
resident reported rats invading
her back yard, which backs up to
the railroad tracks. She said she
had trapped over a dozen of the
rodents.
Several James Street residents
complained this week that
children playing in the vacant lot,
which is overgrown with weeds,
uncovered a number of rats
hiding under debris.
A resident of Hart Street,
which backs up to the Sid Farber
Center off Fallwood Parkway,
reported an air- rifle hunting
expidition over the weekend
which netted over twenty rats at
the rear of the stores and in the
immediate neighborhood.
A call from The Post to
Supervisor John W. Burke's
office determined that the county
had eliminated its Rodent Control
team from the Nassau County
Health Department as an
economy move. The Town of
Oyster Bay, which had been
using the county team for such
complaints in the past, dispatched
its litter and refuse inspectors
to investigate both
problem areas.
