Blaze Starts
In Basement
The second major fire on
Farmingdale's Main Street in the

Shop early Monday morning.
The fire, of undetermined
origin, was discovered at approximately
3: 30 a. m. in the
basement of the building at 471

were polled to determine who on
the present board voted in favor
of the job security clause. Only

board had voted for the contract,
Mrs. Lucille Gould'ng and
Sheldon Bernstein, who announced

board last week.
The district faces a $ 2.30 tax
increase that could increase
another dollar or more per

According to the first firemen
on the scene of the fire, the
basement of the building was
almost completely involved in
fire when the first units arrived,
indicating the fire may have been
burning for some Jirne undetected.
The family in the apartment on
the second floor of the building
was evacuated safely. The only
victim of the fire was " Princess,"
the German Shepherd
owned by Sam Caldone,
proprietor of the barber shop.
Princess was badly burned
before firemen could reach her
and pass her out a window to her
owner. A police officer was asked
to destroy the animal.
Three firemen suffered minor
injuries fighting the blaze, one
