Launch Neighborhood Security
Nassau Police Commissioner
Louis J. Frank announced that
members of the county police
department began to canvass
South Farmingdale Monday Sept.
22, to ask householders to join the
police department's Neighborhood
Security Program.
" The residents of South Farmingdale,
Frank said, " will be
visited by a patrolman who will
ask them to join the Neighborhood
Security Program.
Those who join will agree to help
each other protect their person
and property simply by calling
police when they see a crime
being committed or when they
see a suspicious condition."
Each resident who signs up for
the program will be issued an
identifying red and blue imprinted
card which may be
displayed in his front window.
The card carries the legend
" Neighborhood Security
Program" on the front, and the
telephone number of the Police
Emergency 911 covering the area
on the rear.
" We don't ask or want members
of the Neighborhood
Security Program to take enforcement
action. That's our
job," Frank continued, " The
Neighborhood Security Program
achieves its goal when neighbors
become alert to the activities in
their neighborhood and call
police ( 911) immediately when
they see a crime being committed
or when they observe or

Village OKs
Cable TV
Franchise
The Mayor and Trustees of the
Village of Farmingdale voted at
their meeting Monday night to
grant the franchise for the installation
of Cable Television in
the village to Communications
Development L. I. Corporation of
Jericho.
The unanimous adoption of a
resolution granting the franchise
will enable CDLIC to begin installation
of the service as soon
as they clear the franchise
through the appropriate federal
and state agencies. Dan
Sweeney, attorney for CDLIC.
reported at last week's public
hearing that it would take eight to
ten weeks to clear the franchise
through state and federal
agencies before actual installations
could begin.
The village also approved the
sale of a bond issue of $ 95,000 for
renovations to the firehouse at
9* 2 percent interest to the low
bidder on the issue, Banker's
Trust Company. The work includes
the installation of central
air conditioning, which will be
cheaper to operate than the
present system of individual
space units, and the updating of
the building's electrical system
which is in violation of present
electrical codes.
In other action, the trustees
voted to give $ 1,000 to the Senior
Citizens of Farmingdale. The
funds will come from the federal
revenue sharing funds received
by the village.
The trustees announced that
