Plan Conference On Reading
A " first time ever" conference
for parents focusing . on teaching
reading in Farmingdale will be
held on Wednesday, November 6,
the day after Election Day. " All
About Reading In Farmingdale"
will be the culmination of
education month activities
sponsored by the district.
The session is being planned by
the reading staff of the district
with the help of the PTA and
central administration. A general
session, " All About Reading In
Farmingdale," will start the day
and several small group
meetings will be offered. Parents
of children from nursery school
through grade 6, whether in
public or non- public schools, will
be invited. They will have the
opportunity to attend two of the
small group sessions, view
several exhibits, and have an
. opportunity to ask questions of a
wide variety of personnel in the
district.
Mrs. Peggy Campbell and Mrs.
Bette Watkins have served to
represent the parents in the
community since the meeting is
geared in their direction. According
to M. Barbara Gilles,
Director of Reading in Farmingdale,
parents will be given
an overview of the program and
hopefully will be assured that we
are providing a better- than-average
program for our pupils.
The conference has some built-in
experts in Miss Gilles and Dr.
Philip Acinapuro, Assistant
Superintendent of Schools. Miss
Gilles is president of the 6,000
member New York State
Reading Association; Dr.
Acinapuro is the author of. a
widely read text on the teaching
of reading and has published a
variety of materials for pupils.

THE SIDEWALK SALE in Farmingdale Saturday proved to be a
howling success, with pedestrians replacing traffic on Main Street
from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. The Farmingdale Meat Market [ above] gave
away 6000 Swift Brown ' N Serve Sausages [ 300 lbs.) in front of their
