" Business As Usual" At
European American Bank
Although the signs are still
changing, European- American
Bank became a familiar name to
Long Island residents overnight -
iiterally.
The night was October 7- 8 when
European- American, a New York
State- chartered bank for more
than 53 years, acquired Franklin
National's 102 banking branches.
" Business as usual" is the key
phrase at the new European-
American banking branches,
with customers assured that their
deposits are protected, that their
FNB checks will be honored, and
that there are no changes in their
Master Charge cards, loan and
mortgage payments, safe deposit
boxes, or savings accounts.
Even the faces at the branches
are the same, with FNB employees
continuing their duties
and serving customers. The only
changes are in the name and in
the top management.
Was ' Wholesale' Bank
In announcing the acquisition
of FNB branches, European-
American Chairman Harry Ek-blom,
a former Port Washington
resident, explained that in the
U. S. European- American was a
" wholesale" bank, with total
resources among shareholder
banks in excess of $ 96 billion, and
that the addition of the FNB
' retail" banking branches would
complement the U. S. operation
and bring its world- wide system

Pulls Cash
From Budget
During its executive sessions
last week the Farmingdale
School Board approved a finance
committee recommendation that
$ 340,000 of the current operating
budget be placed into a reserve
fund. The sum of money which
Comes from virtually all codes in
the present budget is another one
of a series of moves aimed at
economy.
Realizing the burden an
outright restriction on the use of
funds would place on school
operations the Board agreed that
up to 50% of the monies could be
released at the Superintendent's
discretion. If it is necessary to
use any part of the additional
50%, the Superintendent will seek
- authorization from the Board for
the additional expenditures.
There were no personnel codes
involved in the $ 340,000 sum.
Authorization was also given to
purchase a form of liability insurance
which would close any
unknown gap in the general
liability coverage purchased by
the district. This special liability
insurance is known as a director's,
errors, and omissions
policy and was recommended by
the district's insurance consultant,
attorney, and business
manager.
In another insurance matter,
approval was given to purchase
certain fire resistant storage
cabinets for each of the school
