Howitt Wrestlers Tops
The Howitt Junior High School wrestling team completed its
season with an undefeated record of nine wins and one tie. Coach
Jim Geller's matmen scored an impressive victory in the final
match with Mattlin ( Plainview) winning by a score of 41- 17. In
last weeks victory a draw was recorded by Tom Hushion and
decisions by Glen Becker, Bob Pell and Dean Perri. Six point pins
were achieved by Billy Byrnes, Jeffrey Waters, Bobby Heller,
Tommy Kent and Steve Sofia. Two of the team members, Jeffrey
Waters and Tommy Kent have gone through the entire season
undefeated.

the key to Farmingdale's Jeffrey
Waters successful season. Only
three points were scored against
Jell in his ten wins in the 98 pound
weight class. Below: Howitt

Roncallo Blasts
" Pettifogging"
Of AX Contract
Charges of Connecticut
Senators Schweiker and Ribicoff
that awarding the A- 10 close
support aircraft to Farchild
Hiller in Farmingdale was due
solely to political pressures and
thereby caused Connecticut to
lose important sub contracts, was
strongly criticized by
Congressman Angelo D. Roncallo
of Massapequa.
Roncallo and Congressman
James R. Grover, Jr., have
called upon New York Senators
Javits and Buckley to bring
whatever resources and
initiatives at their disposal to
counteract " petulant parochial
pettifogging" of the two Senators
from Connecticut.
Congressmen Roncallo and
Grover in a letter to the New
York Senators observed that the
award of the A- 10 close support
aircraft to the Republican
Division of Fairchild Hiller at
FarmiCtffdale, Long Isfand, wai?
made by the Department of
Defense after intensive testing
and was based solely on the basis
of superior performance consistent
with the rigorous fly-before-
buy requirements and
standards of the Department of
Defense.
The Republican Congressmen
intimated that the contract was
being delayed or forestalled by
the very pressure tactics which
the Connecticut Senators
presume to deplore.
Congressmen Roncallo and
Grover said that the sole criteria
for the award of such critical
contracts should be their
meritorious evaluation for
performance and the security of
our armed forces and the
American people.
Library Plans Two
Children Contests
In celebration of the 50th anniversary,
the Farmingdale
Public Library has planned two
contests for children. The first
contest will feature costumes of
the 1920' s. They may be original
design or copies of the styles
worn at that time. The second
contest will be the marking of
diaramas depicting any period of
the Public Library's history from
its beginnings in 1923 until the
present.
Talent Night Falls
Victim to Fracas
Following the Senior Talent
Show Thursday night at the
Farmingdale Senior High School
a racial incident oecured due to
remarks made to blacks by a
number of white students, according
to school officials. Friday
morning the blacks retaliated.
The police arrived at the school in
lull force to prevent any major
problems. School authorities
decided to cancel the Talent
Night scheduled for Friday
evening. No new date has been
set for the show.
POLLING RESULTS: Assemblyman Stuart R. Levine ( R-Bethpage)
looks over returned questionnaires. The polling was sent
to residents of the 10th Assembly District to get views on the major
issues facing the State in 1973. Levine says that the response has been
overwhelming. Because he feels constituent opinion is essential to
responsible representation, he strongly urges those who wish to
express further thoughts on local and statewide issues should contact
him at his office: Legislative Office Building, Room 537, Albany,
New York 12224.
Town Council Confirms
Suspension of Trotter
The Oyster Bay Town Board, at
its last meeting on Tuesday,
confirmed the suspension of
Commissioner of Public Works
Gerard P. Trotta. The suspension
had become public last week,
after rumors alleged
irregularities had reached Town
Supervisor John W. Burke.
" We had heard rumors in this
respect before," a spokesman for
the town said, " but they had
accelerated lately. When WCBS
inquired about the rumors,
Supervisor Burke decided that
his administration could not
expect public confidence if
nothing is done."
Information about alleged
irregularities have been turned
over to Nassau District Attorney
Cahn's office and until the investigation
is completed neither
the town nor the office of the
District Attorney will make any
statements relating to the case.
Joseph Branca of Plainview,
Senior Deputy Commissioner has
been named acting Commissioner
during Trotta's
suspension.
The Town Board also adopted
the code of ethics in the same
form it was presented during a
recent public hearing. Revised
water ways ordinances to go into
effect on the town's north shore
will be the subject during a public
hearing on February 27.
Village Observes Brotherhood Week
Mayor John T. Hallahan, Village of Farmingdale, and the
Presidents of the Kiwanis Club, Edward Vaughan, Rotary Club,
Sidney Siegal, and Lions Club, Charles Stol have approved and endorsed
a Proclamation by the National Association of Christians and
Jews declaring February 19- 24 as Brotherhood Week. The Mayor has
proclaimed that February 25 be designated as Brotherhood Sunday
in Farmingdale.
The resolution calls the Association " dedicated to further and
implement a feeling of brotherhood, tolerance, understanding and
good will... regardless of race, color, or creed..." and asks all
members of the community to do their share in celebrating
Brotherhood week.
The clergy is requested to pray that the ideals of Brotherhood be in
the " minds and hearts" of all the people. The schools, library, and
local organizations should cooperate in efforts to " participate in and
give assistance to the furtherance of this worthy endeavor."
