MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
SLATED FOR SATURDAY Deputy Chief Joseph Murphy of the Farmingdale Fire Department
announced this week that Congressman James R. Grover Jr. will
deliver the Memorial Day address at the conclusion of the parade on
Saturday, May 30th.
Deputy Chief Murphy requested that participating motorized
equipment turn right at the parade conclusion to the parking field No.
4 while those on foot assemble at the speakers dias.
The Grand Marshal will be ex- chief Donald Glascott; the first
Division Marshal; ex- chief Ray Ward; second Division Marshal,

William Siscorind the third Divisipn Marshal, ex- Chief Robert
Baldwin.
The parade will proceed south on Rose Street then east on Grant
Avenue to William Street thence west on Fulton Street ( Route 109) to
Main Street stopping for short services at the monuments at the Main
Street school. The parade will reform and continue on Main Street to
Front Street east to Elizabeth Street to Conklin Street to Cherry Street
to Wesche Drive and the Farmingdale Village Green for the Memorial
Day Exercises.
Groundbreaking for the
$ 45,000,000 shopping center on
Carman Rd., which will house
over 100 stores on a 76 acre site,
will be held on Monday, June 8 at
4 p. m. it was announced this
week.
The center will be named
Sunrise Mall and will be
developed by the Muss- Tankoos
Corporation of New York City in
association with ' some of the
partners of Lazard Freres and
Company,' according to a
spokesman.
Although no leases have been
signed by any of the stores
because of negotiations, some
leases are expected to be signed
by the time of the groundbreaking,
it was learned. Four
major department stores and
over 100 other stores will make up
the 1,300,000 square foot shopping
center.
Projections call for the center
to do $ 100,000,000 of business in
the first year which would mean
$ 5,000,000 in sales taxes alone.
The 76 acre site will be leased
for a period of 95 years.
