CANDIDATES ANNOUNCE
FOR SCHOOL BOARD POSTS
Mrs. Lucille R. Goulding, Farmingdale School Board President for
the past five years, announced her candidacy for reelection to the
Board of Education. Mrs. Goulding said that she will team up with
Trustee A. Terry Weathers in her bid for reelection. Weathers a past
board president, has served as chairman of the Finance Committee
for the past six- years.
Trustee Robert S. Campbell, Vice President of the Board of
Education, also announced his candidacy for reelection this week as
Strike Appears Near End
an ' independent".
The seat vacated by the resignation. of Lerou Mollineaux will also be
on the June 10th ballot.
Petitions for theMollineauxseat are being distributed by backers of
Edmund P. Kennedy, of 9 Lourae Drive, Massapequa Park. Kennedy
an electrical engineer, has served on the Citizens Finance Committee.
Candidates may file no later than May 27.
Supreme Court Judge Michael
D'Auria this morning ( Thursday)
reserved decision on the contempt
charges filed by the
Massapequa Board of Education
against the Massapequa
Federation of Teachers and all
striking teachers after he was
informed that both negotating
parties had reached a tentative
agreement at 8 a. m. this morning.
D'Auria said that he would
await the ratification of the
tentative agreement and would
hear the results at 10 a. m. on
Tuesday at which time he would
also like to hear " why the
teachers did not return to work
when they were ordered to do so
on Monday".
A member of the MFT group
said that the teachers would vote
on the ratification this afternoon
at 4 p. m.
A school official said that the
Board has approved the tentative
agreement, but that the district
would continue to " press the
contempt charge because the
considered the strike illegal and
unnecessary".
The salary negotiations were
settled several days ago and
included an $ 8,000 beginning
salary for teachers, it was
learned at press time.

Spell Out New Voting
Requirements In District 22
A change has been made in the
qualifications of those who may
register to vote in the Farmingdale
Annual Election to be
held on June 10, it was announced
this week. A person may register
who is a citizen of the United
States; 21 years of age and a
resident within the district for a
period of 30 days next preceding
the meeting at which he offers to
vote.
A resident no longer needs to
own, lease or be in possession
under a contract of purchase of
real property in the district. Nor
does he have to be a parent of a
child of school age or have a child
of school age residing with him.
Individuals who are already
registered will receive a notice of
eligibility stating that " this
message applies only to the
person whose name appears on
the face of this card." It will also
direct all members of the family
who meet the qualifications to
register.
Registration will take place on
June 3, between the hours of 10: 00
a. m. and 10: 00 p. m. at the Weldon
E. Howitt Junior High School.
Qualified residents who do not
receive a notice of eligibility, are
urged to register on June 3. If
residents have any questions
about whether or not they are
registered, they are urged to visit
the Howitt Junior High on the day
of registration. A check on
registrations over the telephone
will not be possible, according to
a school spokesman.
