Local GOPers Will Have Inaugural
Just Like Nixon . . . But Minus T. V.
On the same day as the new Nixon
administration will take over the reins of
government, the Farmingdale Republican
Club will officially begin its business with
the installation of officers. And just like
in Washington, the ceremony in Farming-dale
will be presided over by a judge —
Edward Poulos, the former councilman
and majority leader of the Oyster Bay
Town Board.
Coincidence rather than design is responsible
for this doubleheader. January 20,
being the third Monday in the month, is
the regular meeting date of the Farming-dale
Republican Club. And instead of happening
on the steps of the Capitol, this
event of more local importance will take
place in St. Thomas Church ( Undercroft)
and not during daylight, either, but in
the evening at 8: 30.
The names of the participants in the
Farmingdale inauguration are not as
familiar as those of the Washington event.
Being named here does therefore not
carry the risk of overexposure for these
new officers of the Farmingdale Republican
Club: Gerhard Hirseland, president; George
Meyerhoff, executive vice president; Arnold
DiSilvestro, Richard Krause and
Teresa Frisenda, vice presidents; Joseph
Larkin, treasurer; Blanche Oakes, recording
secretary; Ann Larkin, financial secretary;
Frank Zito, sergeant- at- arms.
P. S. Television will not cover this event.
Those who want to see this inauguration
will therefore have to go in person.
Police Say There's A New
Way To Walk To School
The parents of children
attending the Northside Elementary
School are advised
that upon recommendation
of the Nassau County Police
Department, Accident Prevention
Bureau, the following
changes for pedestrian safety
was instituted the first day
of school in the new year,
according to
The existing crosswalks
for school children, East of
Powell Place and West of
Barberry Court on Melville
Road, will be removed and
the Ordinance governing the
stopping of vehicles at the
respective corners will be
repealed. Parents are now
advised that children wishing
to cross Melville Road to
attend the Northside School
must remain on the South
side of Melville Road and
crosswalks will be provided
on the South side of Melville
Road at Laurel Street and
Lincoln Road.
A School Crossing Guard
will be stationed at Laurel
Street where all children
will then cross Melville Road.
The school authorities have
been notified of this change
and according to a reliable
source all parents of children
attending the Northside School
have been advised by mail,
and, in addition, the Board
of Trustees has requiresd
that the school authorities
notify tte local radio stations
so that all interested parties
will be made aware of this
change.

The Village Planning Board
is expected to make its
recommendations to the Village
Board in the next
several days.
What the recommendations
will be, no one seems
to know at the moment.
To build a central library building or retain
the present two library buildings setup will be
the subject of a district- wide taxpayer survey,
it was learned at Tuesday's Farmingdale Public
Library Board of Trustees meeting.
The survey questionnaire will seek taxpayer
opinion on whether to erect a mezzanin in the
rented South Farmingdale Branch Library;
purchase the rented Branch Building for $ 250,000;
eliminate the main and branch libraries following
construction of a central 26,000- square- foot $ 850,000
building, plus land purchase; or continue the
present operation without adding a mezzanine or
without branch library purchase. The main library
building is owned by the district.
The survey was inspired by a recent professional
report by a Joseph L. Wheeler
entitled " Library Building Problems at Farming-dale."
The library board has been mulling over
comparative operational costs with similar- size
communities of Levittown, East Meadow, and
Massapequa, and whether a central library or
two libraries would best serve the needs of
Farmingdale.
In reply to a question whether a portion of
the nearby, recently purchased, 16- acre site by
the Town of Oyster Bay, be made available for a
library site, the answer was ' no' by Board
President Robert Callahan. Callahan said he
haa contacted Town Councilman" FTtTnT iiynes
on the matter.
The Board also approved the hiring of Mrs.
Joan Maxwell as clerk to the Board at $ 3.88 an
hour. Approval wes given to send one representative
to the January 28- 31 meeting of the
American Library Association in Washington,
D. C, at a cost not to exceed $ 150.
The Library Board will also explore the hiring
of a professional labor negotiator to bargain with
the C. S. E. A.- affiliated library employees. Unanimous
Board approval was given on Tuesday for
Grievance Procedure under the Taylor Act.
Mrs. Khan Musa, who has served on the
Library Board since 1952, stated that she will
not seek re- election in May.
In answer to a question by a Bill Sadler on
the Sunday library operation cost, Library
Director Orrin B. Dow stated that the Sunday
1 to 5 p. m. hours from October through April
cost about $ 3,000.
Technical Sergeant Thomas J. Flynn ( left), brother of
Mrs. Richard Anelli of 39 Beverly Road, Farmingdale,
receives the United States Air Force Commendation Medal
at Ita/. nke Air Base, Japan, from Colonel Ben Matlick,
base commander. Sergeant Flynn was decorated for meritorious
service as a command post technician at Eighth Air
Force headquarters, Westover Air Force Base, Massachusetts.
