TOWN MAKES MOVE ON 16
ACRE PARK DEVELOPMENT The Town Board this week authorized Bond Anticipation Notes in
the sum of $ 1,472,800 for a proposed Townwide 16 acre park located on
Heisser Lane on the north east corner of Motor Ave., in South Fam-mingdale.
The land was purchased for $ 825,000 after public hearings
were held in 1967. The park will contain the first municipally- owned
indoor swimming pool in Nassau and Suffolk as a year- round
facility.
Councilman Frank J. Hynes, who has been the guiding force behind
the project since being appointed as Site Chairman in 1962 to develop
a park in Farmingdale, said the Board's action is the " fruition of a
dream."
Hynes said an Olympic- size pool will be built with doors that will
swing open to permit access to an outside terrace in warm weather.
Original plans called for this facility to be run under the auspices of
the South Farmingdale Park District, but heavy demands by
surrounding communities to utilize a pool that would be available on a
year- round basis, prompted a move to develop the site as a Townwide
facility open to all residents of unincorporated areas. A non- resident
entrance fee is anticipated for those who live in incorporated areas.
Hynes said the two- story structure would also contain rooms for
various recreational programs including wrestling and Senior Citizen
projects. Some space will also be reserved for administrative use by
the Town.
Preliminary plans for exterior facilities include playing fields for
baseball or Softball as well as handball courts.
The Town presently has four community pools in park districts
located in Bethpage, Plainview- Old Bethpage, Syosset- Woodbury and
in Massepqua the Marjorie R. Post Community Park.

fl* i State U. Hosts 12 Schools
The strongest teams from 12
schools will take part in the 19th
annual Region XV National
Junior College Athletic
Association track and field
championships at the State
University, Farmingdale campus
next Saturday, May 10th.
Boasting of a formidable
record of ten triumphs against
one setback, the Aggies are
hopeful of returning to the
championship heights, which it
lost last year. In their last start,
the Green and White handed
Nassau C. C. its first setback in
ten meets. In the 21 years that
Coach Tom Watt has had teams
in the title event, the Green and
White have won 13 crowns,
finished runner- up six times and
placed third once, and last season
saw the Aggies finish " out of the
money" for the first time.
Besides the strong Farmingdale
squad, other schools
competing in the 17- event
program, seven field and ten
track, are Nassau, Suffolk,
Metropolitan C. C. Athletic
Conference track and field
champion; Queensborough, New
York City, Manhattan, Staten
Island, Dutchess, Westchester,
Concordia, Rockland and Mitchell.
Back to defend their
crowns will be Joe Costa of the
Aggies, the triple jump and his
first- place tie in the long jump.
The program will get under
way at 12: 30 p. m., and it is expected
to be completed by 5
o'clock.
