V l Ul Farmingdale will be open from 6 a. m. to 10 p. m.
on Tuesday, November 8.
Voters in the 64, 67, 68, Election Districts will
vote at St. Thomas Parish Hall; voters in the 65th
at Weldon E. Howitt and those in the 70th E. D. will
cast their ballots at Village Hall.

William Chilak, 18, of 1 Pauline
Place, Farmingdale was cited
for heroism by the Suffolk County
Police Conference. Chilak
was traveling on Great Neck Road
in North Amityville when he
spotted an automobile accident.
The car had burst into flames.
He carried one of the car's
occupants, a Patricia Ford to
safety.
Chilak who is entering the
Marine Corps next week, was
given a citation and a $ 50 award
at a recent dinner held at the
Narragansett Inn.
Columbia Party Candidates Sweep Elections
For the first time in Weldon
E. Howitt Junior High School's
' political' history a single party
has swept the student council
elections. With James Stephan,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Stephan, 271 N. Kentucky Ave.
N. Massapequa, as its standard
bearer, the Columbia Party took
the offices of president, vice
president, secretary and treasurer.
James Gruebel, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Hugo Gruebel, was elected
vice president. Also winners
were the Columbia Party nominees
for secretary and treasurer,
Debbie Stieglitz, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Alexander Stieglitz, 16
Brua Lane, and Chris Morelli,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Morelli, 29 Hill Road, Farming-dale.
Actual voting machines were
used for the balloting by the students
when they were brought to
the polls by - their social studies
teachers. Tfesy pu1 led down their
levers for either Constitution or
Columbia Party nominees— this,
year apparently clicking down the
levers straight across for their
favorite parties.
Fred Wilkens, social studies
chairman and Joseph Lubell, student
council advisor, were in
charge of the program which included
nominating conventions
and a lot of enthusiastic
campaigning.
CAP In Metro Support
Operation This Weekend
Members of the Farmingdale
Flight, Nassau Composite Squadron
V, Civil Air Patrol will participate
in a unique training drill
and exercise this Saturday and
Sunday at Zahn's Airport, to be
known as " Metro Air Support
' 66".
Units throughout the Metropolitan
area will cooperate with
the City of New York, the Office
of Emergency Planning; New
York Civil Defense Agency and
the Federal Aviation Agency in
staging the exercise to demonstrate
the feasibility of providing
air support to a metropolitan
core in the event of an emergency
or natural disaster which
cripples other means of transit.
The drill will be of national
significance as it is the first
time a major metropolis is involved
with various agencies and
me Civil Air Patrol in such an
operation.
According to information received
by Captain Irving Friedman,
Squadron Commander,
Manhattan Island will be the focal
point of the two day airlift demonstration
in which aircraft and
helicopters will be landing and
taking off from city piers, parks
and certain streets.
A broad range of dramatic missions
have been planned such as
airlifting into the city various
items including generators, communications
equipment, fuel,
medical supplies, fresh water,
mail, food and governmental officials.
Lt. Colonel Howard L. Wirtz
of Farmingdale, Group Commander
for the Long Island area,
has indicated equipment for a
200 bed hospital will be flown
to Zahn's Airport by personnel
of the Pennsylvania Wing, CAP,
under the direction of Col. P.
Neuweiller, Wing Commander.
Approximately 200 aircraft including
a variety of helicopter
and shorttakeoff and landing aircraft
are expected to be utilized
in the demonstration. One of
the missions will involve the airlift
of 285 Civil Air Patrol cadets
to Pier 26 Manhattan, from
various field around the city.
A prime mission of the CAP,
an auxiliary of the U. S. Air
Force is to maintain a task force
capable of performing emergency
services in cooperation with Civil
Defense authorities. Farming-dale's
flight, a member of the
Farmingdale Youth Council, has
participated in several disaster
drills and actual search and rescue
missions. " Metro Air Support
' 66** will be one more opportunity
for CAP personnel to
demonstrate their willingness to
be of service to the community.
Louis F. Karl, Fire Commissioner,
Posses Away At Age 44
CRIME LABORATORY equipment is described to Dr. Charles W. Laffin,
J r . , ( r) president of State University's Agricultural and Technical College
at Farmingdale, by Dana Kuhn, ( 1) assistant professor of Police Science,
during the formal opening of the college's new crime laboratory while William
H. Hewitt, chairman of the Police Science department ( center), looks
on. Device shown is a dual- viewing microscope that enables an instructor
and a student to observe the same object simultaneously. The Police Science
crime laboratory at Farmingdale is the first of its type to be located on an
east coast college campus and will be used for instructional purposes for the
more than 500 full and part- time students enrolled in the program.
Services will be held Thursday
evening at the McCourt and Trud-den
Funeral Home for Louis F.
Karl of 9 Sunset Avenue, Farmingdale,
a member of the Hoard
of Commissioners of the Farmingdale
Fire District who passed
on this week at the age of 44.
The deceased is survived by
his wife, Vivian, his brother Joseph,
and his sisters, Julia Senke,
Elsie Gillespie and Margaret
Smith.
He served as a past commander
of the VFW George Benkert Post.
Interment will take place on
Friday at 2p. m. atthe Long Island
National Cemetery.
" It's not too early to think
of adding ZIP Codes to your
Christmas mailing list," Postmaster
Leo Morgan suggested,
this week. " Also, it would help
greatly if each address was
printed." Morgan encouraged
mailers to use the ZIP Codes on
all addresses because with it
mail moves by a more direct
route and is handled fewer times.
