STATE AID RESULTS
IN SCHOOL TAX DROP Farmingdale school district will receive the expected additional
$ 480,000 in State Aid and an additional amount of $ 125,000
as a result of legislation passed unanimously on Tuesday by
both the State Assembly and the Senate in Albany.
The bill increases the ceiling on state sharing in cost per
pupil from $ 600 to $ 660 which was expected and figured in the
estimated tax rate. The additional $ 125,000 estimated for Farmingdale
is the result of the special density aid provisions in
the bill for aid to districts with an average daily attendance of
more than 8,000. The bill also stipulates that the districts
will receive money on a current basis.
The bill goes to Governor Nelson A„ Rockefeller for his
signature, and it is expected that he will sign the bill since he
had already committed himself to the main formula. The bill
was introduced by Speaker of the State Assembly Anthony Travia
but the ' density' provision had been added by the Republican
side of the aisle and was accepted as a compromise.
The result of the bill will probably mean an 11 cent cut. in
taxes from the original estimated amount of $ 6.94 to $ 6.83.
The current school tax rate is $ 6.75. The total Farmingdale
tax rate including the Farmingdale Youth Council and the Farmingdale
Public Library will probably be set at $ 7.28 per $ 100
of assessed valuation while it was originally estimated at
$ 7.39. The current total tax rate is $ 7.19.

Historical Museum Friends Search For Furnishings Seniors Receive
With the first phase of the
Old Bethpage village restoration
program completed, the Friends
of the Nassau County Historical
Museum has started a search
for the materials that will furnish
the first nine buildings that
are part of a typical Long Island
farm village of 100 years
ago.
At the third annual meeting
' of the Friends group, President
Marvin A. Rapp urged the
110 persons present to turn their
efforts to locating such items as
lighting equipment, china, glass,
clocks, pewter and silver, and
rugs. The materials will be
used to furnish the nine structures
that have already been
moved to a 165- acre site to the
east of Round Swamp Road. While
Nassau County is re- creating
the typical farm village, the
Friends organization, a nonprofit
educational group, is assisting
in the acquisition of historical
articles and furnishings
for the buildings. During the
meeting, a check for $ 500 was
presented to the Friends organization
by Mrs. Thomas
Tourt, Chairman of the Junior
Women's Club of Bethpage. The
money will be used to furnish
the kitchen of the Powell House.
The donation was the second
thus far made by the group of
28 women.
