CTA PLEASED WITH
SCHOOL BOARD PACT After seven months of negotiations, a written agreement was
signed Monday evening between the Farmingdale Classroom
Teachers Association Inc., representing 700 teachers of the
district and the Farmingdale Board of Education.
The agreement recognizes the Association as the exclusive
bargaining agent of the teachers and calls for mediation by the
State Board- of Mediation in the event of an impasse between the
teachers and the Board of Education. The agreement spells out
the conditions of employment for all of the teachers of the district,
includihg the number of classes to be taught, leave and
personnel policies, grievance and bargaining procedures.
CTA President Kenneth Deedy heralded the agreement as a
" giant step forward toward developing harmony and long lasting
respect between the teachers, school administration, and Board
of Education."
Mrs. Lucile Goulding, President of the Farmingdale Board of
Education was lauded by her fellow trustees for her leadership
in working out this agreement.
Lovers Lane Must Go, Mayor And Residents Agree
A group of 14 taxpayers from the southside of Sherman
Road appeared at the special meeting of the Board of Trustees
on Monday evening to discuss security measures proposed
by the Board regarding the protection of property and the
security of residents bordering Jackson Avenue, a dead end street
paralleling the Main Line of the Long Island Railroad.
A recent complaint from the area prompted the Board to
extend the invitation to the residents so that they would have
the opportunity to express their views to the proposed measures.
Poorly lighted Jackson Avenue, about 1400 feet in length
and a dead end street, has become lovers lane, and has caused
a great deal of consternation and anxiety in the area. It was
mutually agreed that street lights be installed, ' No Parking or
Standing* signs be placed on both sides of the Avenue, and the
Highway Department install a barricade with a gate entrance
for maintenance and emergency vehicle use at the Melville
Road intersection.
In other business before the
Village Board, an application to
re zone existing residential property
on the north side of Fulton
Street, from a Residence * B*
District to a Business ' D- D'
was submitted to the Board of
Trustees by the Attorneys for the
Bethpage Lodge F. & A. M. # 975,
. for the erection of a new Lodge.
After considerable discussion the
Board considered the area
strictly residential and not conducive
to the proposed use.
The Board of Trustees approved
an agreement between the
South Farmingdale Water District
whereby both agree to exchange
water during any emergency.
