Mayor Zureck Issues
Progress Report
Joseph Zureck, Mayor of the Incorporated
Village of Farmingdale, this week issued the
following progress report.
" I would like to take this opportunity
to report to you the
progress that has been made during
the past year by your administration.
The program to expand and improve
our water facilities, undertaken
during the past year, is
now in the final stages of completion.
The new 500,000 gallon
elevated storage tank, 400 foot
deep well, pump house, plus 3,650
feet of 8" water mains have been
completed to date. The improvements
to our distribution system
have been in operation for some
time and the new well and storage
tank is expected to be operational
in April of this year. These improvements
have been planned to
provide for all of our present
and future needs of water for
both domestic and emergency
use.
Also, during the past year we
have taken delivery of three new

namely, a 100 foot aerial
ladder truck, 1250 G. P. M. pump,
and a rescue van. Both of these
programs we felt were necessary
and essential to provide for the
health and welfare of our residents.
Our program to improve
street - lighting throughout the
community by replacing all existing
100 watt incandescent
lights with improved 175 watt
mercury vapor lighting, plus any
additional lights that may be required,
is well underway. This
program is to be completed in
three phases: ( 1) residential
streets, ( 2) business districts,
and < 3) municipal parking fields.
These improvements will not only
benefit our motorists, but will
act as a deterrent toward theft,
destruction and vandalism.
For many years the residents
living in the southeast section of
our community in the area bounded
by Maple Street, Pine Street,
and Harrison Place have been
plagued with serious flooding
problems in times of torrential
storms. This area of the village
has i- o » « * d a ualque u* « ihL m because
of the fact that the watershed
area encompasses not only
the village land alone, but land
which lies in Suffolk County and
the town of Babylon. The area
within the village, being relatively
low, is compelled to take
the volume of runoff. Numerous
