RATE DR. KINZLER TOPS William A. Kinzler, an educator
who came up from the
ranks in Farmingdale and who
has been here for 18 years,
was selected over outstanding
superintendent candidates from
throughout the United States for
the position of Superintendent
of the Farmingdale Public
Schools at Monday's Special
board meeting held at Weldon
E. Howitt.
Kinzler a resident of 21 Barberry
Court is married and has
two children.
He is a graduate of the Grover
Cleveland High School in Brooklyn
in 1938 and was selected as
an outstanding all- around boy
graduate. He received a BA degree
from St. John's College
in 1943 having majored in Social
Sciences and minored in English
and Mathematics. He attended
Notre Dame University under
the Midshipman training program
for the US Navy. He also
studied Diesel Engineering at
the University of California and
then received his Masters degree
in 1947 fvoM St. John s
University. He received his doctorate
degree in 1962 when he
majored in Public School Administration
and Supervision. He
has also studied at Hofstra and
New York University.
During college, he worked in
with the Grace National Bank
and during the service served in
the Navy from 1943- 46 as a
Commanding Officer of a commissioned
U S Naval Mine -
sweeper with the rank of LTj. g.
From 1946- 1951 Kinzler taught
mathematics, English and social
studies in grades five through
eleven. He taught in New York
City and Westbury and came to
Farmingdale in 1947. He was
nominated for the Best Teacher
of the Year A ward in 1948.
From 1951- 56 he served as
Co - Director of Guidance for
grades 7 - 12. He initiated many
new services with special emphasis
on scholarship improvement,
resulting in the attainment
of $ 68,000 of scholarship grants
in 1954.
From 1956 to 1959 he was
appointed Principal of the Farmingdale
Junior High School, innovations
which he introduced
included ability grouping, curriculum
materials for uMterae-tiated
instructional levels, foreign
language and algebra to
selected groups in grade 8; remedial
reading, revised report
card which now serves for grades
4- 12.
From 1959 to present he has
served as Assistant Sspery***-
dent of schools. He has worted
with personnel, evaluation of staff
and instructional program,
school board - staff relations,
pupil personnel services, chairman
of all district- wide confer-erences;
director of i n -
service teacher training and
Chairman of the Curriculum Advisory
Council.

Airport Study Progresses
The recently organized Babylon
Airport Study Committee,
has reported progress in the
initial stages of its study of the
feasibility of municipal operation
of the Republic airfield at Farmingdale,
as a limited use General
Aviation Airport.
According to John Russell of
Amity ville, temporary chairman
of the group, the committee
has visited Republic where it
inspected the airfield, control
tower, related facilities and witnessed
take- offs and landing of'

Farmingdale recipients of Nassau County Physical fitness and Academic
awards were honored last week by the Klwanls Club of Farmingdale at a
dinner held at Westbury Manor. Reading from 1 tit r is Lewis Minn, Divisional
Chairman of the Program; Steven Woodford and Dale Jones, r e cipients
of physical and academic awards and Theresa Salerno, who r e ceived
a Physical Fitness award.
Herbert Thomas, another Academic Award recipient was not present.
