( Continued on Page 9)
All students will be on full- time sessions when
the Farmingdale Publico Schools open on Wednesday,
September 8th and the new building extensions
will be completed on schedule, it was
assured by the District # 22 Board of Education
at the August monthly, meeting held on Monday
night at Weldon E. Howitt Jr. High School Au-ditiorium.
Hie Board discussed the results of their latest
inspection tour of the school buildings and new
extensions under construction and accepted the
report by the architect that " construction and
renovation on all buildings is now proceeding
on schedule."
At one point, during the early summer, it
was feared that some of the new construction was
far behind schedule. The situation of some
building construction lagging beiiind other, had
been remedied, due to the constant vigilence of
the administration and the board, ( Board inspection
tours have been taking place every Wednesday),
it was learned from a reliable source.
In addition to cafeteria and gymnasium areas,
53 elementary classrooms are being added: 16
each at the Albany Avenue and Parkway Oaks
schools and 21 at the Woodward Parkway school.
The cafeteria and 13 classrooms are undergoing
modernization at the Main- Street elementary
school. The work schedule will permit all student
areas to be ready for occupancy by September,
as promised at the time of the building
referendum. There is a possibility that the
kitchen renovation work at the Woodward Parkway
school will not be completed until mid-
September. In that event, only cold lunches will
be served at the school during the early part
of September. The 1,000- pupil annex to the
Howitt Junior Higji School is scheduled for occupancy
next year- September, 1966. At the present
time it is expected that the annex will be
completed in time for the occupancy date.
As soon as ground was broken for the additions,
LeRoy Mollineaux, Chairman of the District
# 22 Board of Education Buildings and Grounds
Committee, arranged to have the board members
visit the consjtruction sites periodically. These
visits, made in cooperation with Mr. Charles
Moore, Clerk- of- the- works for the construction
program, were recently increased in frequency
so that inspections have been made on a weekly
basis starting the latter part of July.
While the construction work is in progress,
regular maintenance has been going on at each
of the District's nine school buildings. This
work, along with an intensified effort to improve
the grounds at all schools, has been supervised
by Mr. Robert Litt, Superintendent of Buildings
and Grounds, it was learned. The results of this
work are also reviewed by the board members
during their annual inspection of each building
and its grounds prior to the opening of school.
