STAPLES STREET TO
GET AUTOMATIC GATES Long Island Rail Road crews will
begin work around the middle of March
on installation of automatic gates at
the grade crossing at Staples Street
in Farmingdale.
The Public Service Commission has
approved the $ 17,987 project to replace
standard flashing lights at the crossing
just east of the South Farmingdale station
on the railroad's Central Branch.
The job, expected to be completed by
the end of March, is part of a continuing
program of upgrading crossing
protection being carried on by the
railroad in cooperation with the State.
F. H. S. To Host Wrestling Tournament
Farmingdale High School will
play host to the North Shore
Athletic League Wrestling Tournament
this Friday and Saturday,
February 19- 20. The tournament
will bring together 26
High Schools of the North Shore
League that will be competing
for the Team Championship
as well as the individuals that
will be seeking thecovetedtrophy
of the Individual Champion in
each weight class. Champions,
second place, third and fourth
place winners will be determined
in the 98, 106, 115, 123, 130,
136, 141, 148, 157, 168, 183
and heavyweight classes.
Preliminaries will begin on
Friday, February 19th at 4: 00
o'clock. The quarterfinal round
will begin about 8: 00 and conclude
at 10: 00 o'clock.
The semi- finals will be held
on Saturday, February 29th at
l& Q p- m. and conclude at 4: 00.
The consolations will begin at
7: 00 o'clock on Saturday with
the Finals to follow at about
8: 30.
The first North Shore Wrestling
Tournament was last held
in Farmingdale in 1955 when
some teams competed and Farmingdale
was the champion. In
1956 and 1957 Farmingdale held
the crown in the North Shore
League. In 1958, Farmingdale
lost out to Mineola by one point
by again won the championship
in 1959. There was'no tournament
in 1961 but each of the
Divisions oi tne North Shore
League had a tournament with
Island Trees, Mineola with
Farmingdale winning the title.

Groups Cooperate For World Children's Day
Mid- Island Girl Scout Council President, Mrs.
Robert Stretton, presents Mrs. Robert Kamp-schulte
with a silver tray in appreciation of 25
years of service to the Council. The presentation
was made at the Council's Annual Meeting, the
first of the many celebrations to be held commemorating
Mid- Island's 25th Anniversary.
Mrs. Robert Nitschke, President of the Bethpage Junior Women's
Club and Mrs. Robert Rodman, Chairman of the Ways and Means
Committee, presented an $ 800.00 check to Henry R. Meisels, Director
of the Hethpage l^ ublic Library. This was the fifth contribution
made by the club which has raised a total of $ 2,585.00 at
bazaars and fashion shows held for the benefit of the library since
1959.
A host of Farmingdale business
and organizations are cooperating
with Farmingdale World Children'
s Day, according to Pat
Schriro, President. They include
financial contribution from the
Farmingdale Rotary Club, and
various religious women's
groups. Also the Bankers Trust
Company will count the coins.
Various local bakeries are donating
cakes.
A film showing will be presented
by the Farmingdale Public
Library at its South Farm-
Conduct
Fire Inspection
The Fire Prevention department
of the S. Farmingdale Fire
Department will conduct a fire
inspection of all Business Establishments.
The program is required by
the " Authority of the Nassau
County Fire Commission Office."
Chief inspector William
Blekicki is in charge of the inspection
and has requested the
cooperation of Business men in
order to complete this program.
The inspection was designedto
improve fire safety and fire prevention
and to protect business
establishments in the district.
To Hold Book Fair
A Book Fair will be held at
the next regular meeting of St.
Kilian's Mothers' Club on Monday
February 22nd at 8: 15 p. m.
in the Conklin Street Auditorium.
ingdale branch on Saturday, February
20 at 1: 30 and 3 p. m.
Mrs. Schriro also cited the
Girl Scouts for the posters they
have made.
Another film showing will be
offered at the Main Street School
on Saturday, February 20 during
the morning.
The central collection point
• will be the Weldon E. Howitt
Jr. High School cafeteria on Sunday,
February 21, at 4 p. m.
According to Mrs. Schriro,
" There is great value and satisfaction
to each child as a result
of his or her participation. The
generosity of Farmingdale residents
will do much to teach them
about Brotherhood."

Kilians Mothers Club, Nancy Gillies,
Farmingdale Baptist, Mrs.
Ellen Barber; Farmingdale Jewish

First Trimester Class To Graduate
Commencement exercises will
be conducted for the first graduating
class of trimester students
at State University's Agricultural
and Technical College here on
Friday, February 19.
The first mid- year graduation
in the college's 53- year history
will see approximately 125 students
awarded the Associate in
Applied Science degree.
Dr. Clifford Lee Lord, president
of Hofstra University, will
make the principal address to the
college's 46th graduating class.
The title of Dr. Lord's address
is, " Great Expectations".
Trimester, or year- round operation,
was begun at the Farmingdale
College in June, 1963. A
limited number of students inaugurated
the trimester calendar in
programs leading to the Associate
in Applied Science degree
in advertising art and design,
business administration, construction
technology, secretarial
science and electrical technology.
Students who began their studies
in June, 1963, attended
classes through February,
1964, at which time they had their
" summer" vacation which extended
until June of that year.
Now, having completed their
second summer and fall trimesters,
they are ready to graduate.
Included in the February 19
commencement will be evening
division students and full- time
students other than trimester who
have completed their two- year
programs of study.
