Board Approves New
$ 385,000 Water Plan
The Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Farmingdale
passed a resolution on Monday night for the erection
of a new 500 thousand gallon water tank; the installation of a
new well and the building of new transmission lines at an estimated
cost of $ 385,000 to be financed over a period of 35
years. The resolution which also called for the engineering
firm of Holzmacher, McLendon and Murrell to prepare the
specifications for bids was moved by Trustee Norman Krasnow
and seconded by Trustee John O. Wagner Jr.
According to Mayor Joseph Zureck, one of the prime reasons
for the expenditure was to conform to the recommendations
of the New York Fire Rating Organization, which will
result not only in a substantial increase in water pressure in
the event of a major fire, but will also result in substantial
savings in insurance premiums to the home owner, businessmen
and to the Incorporated Village of Farmingdal « « ftMM
water pressure, and the 500,000 gallon figure was decided
upon after much deliberation as the minimum- size needed.
The survey by the New York Fire Rating Organization, conducted
in September 1962, had showed a deficiency in water
supply of 34%.
The additional transmission lines are also necessary taking
in to consideration emergency inter connections with Bethpage
and South Farmingdale.
The new well would be sunk deeper than the present well
because the old well is becoming increasingly contaminated
by detergents.
NEW RESCUE VAN
It was also learned that the new Farmingdale Fire Department
Rescue Van ordered last February was delivered to

Before the resolution was passed, the board members spent
several sessions in deliberating the extent of the installation.
On Monday evening, Robert Holzmacher and Samuel McLendon,
representatives of the engineering firm, answered a host of
questions that enabled the Board to arrive at the decision.
Among the points brought out under discussion was that the
present 100 thousand gallon overhead tank located at 315 Eastern
Parkway was over 35 years and would require costly maintenance
with a marginal life expectancy, according to an investigation
by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company.
A new larger elevated tank was necessary to achieve greater

who were unable to attend last week's meeting with representatives
of the Long Island Lighting Company, the inspection
tour arranged of a pilot street lighting installation
recommended by the American Street Lighting Association
as being best suited for residential and commercial street
lighting. Upon motion of Trustee Nurman Krasnow, seconded
by Trustee John Hallahan, the Village Clerk was authorized
to order the Long Island Lighting Company to begin
partial installation of this new light system beginning at the
most easterly end of the Village and proceeding westerly.
This program will be accomplished over a two- year budget
period.
