Vincent Santiago ( 1), of 113 Intervale Avenue, South Farmingdale, received
the Cadet of the Year Award at ceremonies last Friday on the occasion of the
PBC Nautical Cadets Fifth Annual Parents Night at Parkway Oaks School.
Commanding Officer Carl A. Dittmeier ( center) and Regimental Captain
Charles Gemuendt offer their congratulations. Eighteen youngsters also
graduated from ' boots' to seamen recruits.
At Monday's meeting of the Farmingdale Republican
Club, Ellsworth " Doc" Allen announced
his resignation as Executive Committeeman.
Allen recommended that the committeemen consider
the nomination of Frank J. Hynes as his successor.
Hynes was elected unanimously.
The committeemen thanked Allen for his untiring
efforts and for his many years of hard work
within the Republican party. He was praised for
his ability to enhance the prestige of the Farming-dale
area in the County political arena. Allen
requested the committeemen to accept his resignation
because of the increasingly heavy requirements
of the position. He indicated that he will
continue to work for the advancement of the prin-.
ciples of the Republican party.
Hynes, the Receiver of Taxes for the Town of
Oyster Bay, was elected to office in 1963. He
is a member of the Lions Club, the Emerald
Association and the Boy Scouts of America. He
and his wife Eileen and six children have been
residents of the Town of Oyster Bay since 1943
and have lived in Farmingdale for the past five
years.
Choirs To Sing At Main And Conklin
The Kiwanis Club of Farm-indale
announced that a program
of Christmas Caroling, which will
include local church choirs, will
take place on the corner of Main
and Conklin Streets.
On Thursday, December 17th
at 7 p. m., the St. Luke's Lutheran
Church choir will participate.
On Friday, December 18th
at 7 p. m., the Farmingdale Methodist
Church choir will be
present.

Choir will sing on Monday,
December 21st at 7: 45 p. m.
Troops from die Mid- Island
Council of Girl Scouts will take
over the afternoon and evening
of Tuesday, December 22nd from
2 to 8 p. m.

Village Board To Inspect Pt.
Washington Lighting Project
A pilot street lighting project
in Port Washington, erected by
die Long Island Lighting Co.,
will be inspected by the Board
of Trustees of The Incorporated
Village of Farmingdale on Monday,
December 21. The inspection
will take the place of the
regular Board Meeting.
The pilot project is an example
of mercury vapor lamps instead
of the convenient incandescent
lamps now in street lighting
use in Farmingdale.
The Village Board is considering
improving the system of residential
and business lighting in
the village. The mercury vapor
system is said to diffuse more
light with the use of the same
amount of watts.
Canned Food For Needy
Key Club Members Collect
A collection of cans of food
for the needy which will be distributed
by die Nassau County
Department of Welfare, is being
initiated by die Key Club of
Farmingdale beginning this week.
The Key Club is composed of a
group of students at die Farming-dale
Senior High School and is
sponsored by the Farmingdale
Kiwanis Club.
The students plan to collect
die cans of food in die school
and diroughout die community.
Members of die club will be stationed
around the Farmingdale
Senior High School before, die
homeroom period for collections
from now until die Christmas
vacation. After school the 56
members will collect cans in
their neighborhoods.
The Key Club members will
attempt to • brighten the Holiday
Season for those less fortunate
than themselves', according to
Leonard Gutterman, Secretary.
Other offices of die Key Club
are Andiony Sabino, President,
Rodney Dow, Vice President and
Steve DeVries, Treasurer.
