Fresh Air Home Not to Open
At the mon;th(y medting of the Presidents of the Conferences of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, held at St. Jam^ Pro-Cathedral laat we^k, it waa decided not to open the Fresh Air Hoihe for Children at Freeport this Summer. The Society has maintained the Honte for twelve years. ^ The tmbatly increased cost of niaintenance and of ^transportation were some of the reasons, but th^ de¬ ciding factor in the decision waa the difllculty of collecting funds which the St. VinfeeAt de PaUl Society, in com¬ mon with all charitable associations not directly engaged in war work, suf¬ fers from at the present time.
It was suggested that the buildings at Freeport might be used as a rest house for convalescent women, espe¬ cially those with young children, a project which the Spiritual Director, tine EJdt, Louise Finger, Ann^ Gold-j Mons. O'Hara has greatly at heart.

Freeport Entertain*
Soldiers from Texas
Through the energy of C^aptain ^ames Hanse, aided hy the patriotic citizens of our village, the|Mttle task of feeding 1,400 soldiers liter a 7- mile hike and a swim in Randall Can¬ al, both healthy appetizers, was suc¬ cessfully carried out, ^th some to spare after all had been filled, on Wedneaday of last week. The sol¬ diers, under command of their col¬ onel, came out on a little hike to see the ocean but at the end of a 7-mile walk were still a long way from their destination, with the march back in anticipation.
Captain Hanse tried to make ar¬ rangements at the bathing pavilion and found that there would be a spe¬ cial price of 10 cents each,'about |160 for the crowd, if the lads had their suits witb them—which it is hard¬ ly anticipated that they did, so they were marched to a specially selected place free from mosquitoes and sightseen and invited to get their swim, with bathing suits if they had them, but to get the swi/n, while the eats were being looked up.^
We have not the opportunity to go into details, but everybody helped, and all the boys were fed and went through Freeport on their way home that afternoon singing one big new song from Southern lads and it sound¬ ed good to we Freeporters. It went like this: ,
What's the matter with Freeport?
Freeport's all right.
Hurrali for Freeport!"
And there Was stiU. enough bread left to make sandwiches for several squads more.
