Made eyewitnesses gasp Wednesday when Hose 2, coming down Henry Street and forced to make a wide swing to clear a touring carT just grazed the chemical. For a while it looked like a collision, which was just avoided by the proverbial hair's breadth, but it made ui "hold our breath."
At the regular meeting of the Field Day Committee Monday evening it was reported that Frank E. Rose of Baldwin, who was expected to be one of the timerf. waa onable to serve, and tbat Theodore Bedell, sr.. had con¬ sented to serve. This completes the list of officials.

Grandstand Committee reported they had contracted with G. Howard Ran¬ dall for a grandstand, four tiers high, capable of seating about three hundred people, and that tickets therefor would be 25 cents each, which would just about pay for tbe stand if all tickets were sold.
Band Committee reported that the Freeport Enterprise Band of sixteen pieces had been secured for the after¬ noon, the same as had alreiidy been en¬ gaged for the inspection in the morn¬ ing.
Moving Picture Committee reported a large number uf tickets for which no returns had been made, and re¬ quested return of tickets or money to the Committee as soon as possible.
It was decid«^ to rescind tbe actiQD taken at the last meeting of the Com¬ mittee that any member must take part in the annual inspection in thi» morning to be eligible to compete in. the afteirnoun, and as It now stands any member of the department in good standing may compete whether he pa¬ rades or not.
The next meeting of the Committee will be held at the truck bouse next Tuesday evening. August 81, and it is probable that another meeting will bo held in the same week.
