This does not refer to the latest news of the war, but to the contest to be held at Freeport Athletic grounds, cor¬ ner Seaman and Ocean Avenues, when Freeport will again cross bats v.ith the Kirkman A. A., which defeated them on August 1, by the score of 3 to 1. Freeport made a couple <if bad errors in thut game, but lasl Saturday they ;;layed an errorless garu.', and are hoping to be alile to repeat the per¬ formance this Saturday and will do their best to keep the Kirknian"s from scoring at all. .At any rate. FVeeport is playing food bail, and if you come out you will get your money's worth.

"Protea" is a story of two nations that are about to enter into a treaty and the third nation is anxious to learn the terms thereof. To secnre the de hired information the charming adven¬ turess Protea is engaged. She under¬ takes the taak provided she can have the assistance of a certain man who is at the time serving a prison sentence. The Eel. His release is ordered and the pair atart on their task. From this point the spectator is carried through a succetsran of thrills and sur¬ prises, changes of costumes, rapid and startling and feats of skill and daring that keeps one gasping with expec¬ tancy. HOLY NAME RALLY
HERE NEXT YEAR
Fifty delegates attended the month¬ ly executive meeting of the Long Isl¬ and Diocesan LTnion of the Holy Name Society at Lynbrook on Sunday after¬ noon.
One of the must important matters for consideration was the plan to be made for next year's great rally. The last was held at Patchogue several weeks ago, Tt'OO members attending. Frank Donaghy, representing Free- port, Rockville Centre and Bellmore. put in a bid for Freeport. He pointe<l out that Freeport is one of the largest villages on Long Island and has every facility for holding such a rally. It ia tbe home of the largest Catholic Church on Long Island, and Rev. John O'Toole. the paslor, cordially invites the Holy Name .Society to Freeport in 1915.
Before tHis caa be accepted, a for¬ mal invitation must be made in writ¬ ing over Father O'Toole's signature. This will be given to the Rally Com¬ mittee, which body wiP take action. Four invitations have been given, but it is admitted that Freeport will like¬ ly be the next scene of the Holy Name rally.
C. E. Whitehouse, Roosevelt, has about .=>00 loads of dirt,at frolley Stop e.s. which he is willing to give away to the first person who calls for it. About 200 loads of this ii top sotl and the rest tine gravel. Mr. Whitehouse is doing some building and wanta'to £«t rid of tbc dirt at oace.

Wna: is thv^ use of being blue and grou<'hy when you have in store one of the biggest dayj ever experienced in Freeport. The world famous Kit Car¬ son's Buffalo Ranch Wild West is com¬ ing for two performances on Saturday, August 22. and isn't that enough to make you brighten up and feel better? S.l begin right now making your ar¬ rangements lo jiut in one glorious time and forget your troubles. No matter what is bothering you this.peer of all American amusement enterprises will I make a new person of you in two hours. Treatment guaranteed. You j will awaken on the morning of .August 22, and find that the big Wild West ' show has arrived on their own special '¦ trains of double length cars and are ' preparing everything for your pleas- 1 nre. Then glance at a few of the : featares of this noted attraction. To begin, they are the only show on earth ; carrying a real up-to-date aeroplane. I Yes, a real aeroplane. Not a model, ' but one that actually flies and will cir- I cle your city and alight at show I grounds for inspection. Furniahed by I the Chicago Aeroplane Manufacturing , Co. to Kit Carson BufTalo Ranch Wild i West at an enormous expense and I flights guaranteed every day. Isn't 1 that enough to make you feel better'.' j Then who ever heard of a complete I menagerie of trained wild animals with I a frontier show? They've got them j and will show you something new in I animal acts beyond belief, death de- I fying acts with tbe elephants, camels ! and on down to the smaller animals. Then there are the cowboys, sowgirls, I Cossacks from Russ.a, Vaui)ueros from I Mexico, the famous .Marline?, family ' of Rough Riders from the plains of , Patagonia in South .America and other , wild west riders and fancy ropers. ; But wait, one thing we forgot to men- I tion. How atxiut that two-mile parade lof gold and glitter? Won't that rub I off a little of the bjue and make you I feel younger when you elbow your way I through the crowd in your efTort "git I a front place?" Sure il will. You i will be feeling youvg und frisky before yon ever reach the show grounds and during the performance the down clewns will complete tne job of iiiak- 1 ing a new person of you. So forget j business end household oeres on Satur- ' day, August S2, and have one more Igood time. Leek up the old store, shut jupthehouBj, grab the k>ddies and j come on to Rir sb«w grosada.

OUR GOOD KOADS The roads of Nassau Coiinty have never been in better cm-Jiti'in than they are now. The improven, ent of the Merrick Road has made rhe trip into New York much easier than it was. The City authorities are repair¬ ing .Merrick Road beyond V'elley Stream, and thr- best way to get to .New York IS to turn otT to the right at West's H<itel corner. Valie.v Streani. and liear to the left on this road until the Merrick Road is again reached just before coming into Jamaica.
OUT OF THE FRYING PAN I have to come through Pine Street considerably, crossing the tro.ley track at Grove Street, and I asked the Vil- | lage Board in a written communication if they would kindly fix it so that iti Would be passable. .\nd it certainly, is fixed. I would not like to be so con¬ ceited as to think that it had been i "fixed" for my special fier.etit. but I i venture to say that if I could take our genial Road Commissioner and two or three members of the Village Board of Trustees over that road six times a day for six days that the road wouli! lie fixed again, and this time so that it would lie a little more decent. Com-: ifig down to facts, I have not yet found 1 on Long Islands real double "Thank-' you ma'am" as rank as the one which bas been »o laboriously installed ati tlih' '•r,,sf'nL'. I

Big Time Labor Day
for All Freeport
The date of the Annual .-^tale .Sestlon I.f tiie Jr. O. U. .A. .M. drawing near, finds the local committee hard at wf.rk on tbeir plans to make a reputation for Freepirt as a place for small conven¬ tions, and to this end they invite the

So.in after Iieginning work the com¬ mittee realized that although the con¬ vention WHS entirely of a secret organ¬ ization the issue waa of interest tC all, and tu furtiier that interest tiiey ask all the residents of the village to give the delegates, lo the number of about l-'iO. such a welciime that after they retunV home they will not forget

1 A novel scheme of vvelconie has been
! Iiroposed and it remains to be seen how
' il will be acceiited by the public. .\
"'soap artist" has been secured who will, for the sum of ten cents, put the words " Welcome Jr. O. U. -\. .M." in soap on the wind shield of every aulo¬ mobile. Delegates wil! be given to un¬ derstand that whenever thev see an automobile with these words rm the shield it will mean that the owner is a Freeport "boomer" and that he is will¬ ing, if they so desire, to show them the points of interest in the village. Delegates will be easily distinguish¬ able by the badge they wear, both la.l- ies and gentlemen.
Plans are being carefully laid so that there will be no conflict betwetn the convention and the annual parade and inspection and field day of the Fire Department which occurs the same day, and an invitation will be extend¬ ed by the Fire DepartmenI committee to all the delegatus who desire to at¬ tend the games, although it is expect¬ ed most all will go to the beach, where they will be guesta of Freeport Conns cil at a bay dinner at Ellison's Sea Side Hotel ajid Pavilion, returning home by moonlight after enjoying dancing at the beach.
Taken altogther, this jiromises-to be a great day for Freeport for. although the number of delegates is small, tbey come from every corner of the Empire State, and every loyal Freeporter is vitally interested in what these dele gates tell about Freepori when they return to their homes after the Con¬ vention.
