Firemen Again Busy
Wedneaday evening, December 26, fira at the residence of Charles Eagan, 20 Pennsylvania Avenue, eaaaed by an oil stove exploding, did about $125 damage to the building and contenta. The fire waa extinguished by tbe occa- panta without calling out tbe fire de¬ partment.
Satarday evening, December 80, .the firapot of a steam boiler cracked open at the residence of William Levy. North Ocean Avenue, causing tbe flames to go oat into tbe cellar. Tbe fire department was called, but noth¬ ing caught fira, and no damage waa done.
Monday evening, Jannary i, an im- occunied bouse at corner of Miller and Atlantic Avenoea was badly damaeed by fira, apparently of incendiary orig. in. The bouse wat owned by If. D. Rodgera, of Brooklyn, and tbe loss will amount to abont $750 to tbe bailding, covered by insurance. As usual of late, considerable excitement was oaased by the iiiabiiity of the "power houae" to obtain a definite location from the person sending tbe alarm, altboagb g«x>d service was randeredby the telephone operaton in sttnding the various companies to tbe proper local¬ ity.

Tbe Fire Department has been lung considering the question of a proper fire alarm for the village. At present the alarm is sounded on the piece of. steel rail in the rear of Berth's barber ahop and has often proven inadequate tfit this purpose. Several devicea and whistles have been investigated and tried out by the department officials, but none have been accepted as yet. An electric siren is expected this week and wili be given a trial.

MRS. MAY S. CRANE Mrs. May S. Crane, 47 yeara old, died at ber home in Troy on Wednes¬ day after a year's illness witb heart trouble. She was a native of Brook¬ lyn, bat lived tor many years in Frae¬ port, ber parents being Mf. and Mra. Sidney Smith. Mrs. Crane's husband died five years ago. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ella S. Dorlon, of East Avenue, wife of Elvin A. Dorlon. Mrs. Dorlon is the only surviving member of the family, her sister, Mrs. Maude S. Allee, and brother, Sidney S. Smith, having died several years ago.

Early celebration of Holy ('ommcn- ion was observed Christmas morning in St. Paal's Episcopal Church with Rev. Mr. Gilreith of Hempstead as celebrant, assisted by Rev. A. J. Smith.
The Christmas exerises of the Son- day School were held laat Wednesday evening in the church in connection with the regular mid-week evening prayer servies. After a short talk by Rev. A. J. Smith, deacon in cbarge, the Sunday School presented gifts to the scholars of candy, books and an orange. The school furnished the books while the candies were provided by the teachers and the orangen through the kindness of Mrs. William Tabb and Mrs. Charles Bates. A large Christmas tree furnished by Archdeacon Roy F. Duffield. was v^ry beautifully decorated for tbe occasion. Tbe Deacon was also remembered in tbe distribution of gifts by various in¬ dividual! and the members of the Guild.
