A number of our local baymen had been inclined to make light of the idea that there were any ferocious sharks in the bay, but they aro now willing to admit that there is a possibility of Fresh Air Home *^^^^ ^ig fish attacking bathers. An idea of the size of this fish is given by Mr. Lott, who atates that the fluke, which ia a broad fish, waa bitten in two as neatly as though it had been done with a knife.

Criticism has been heard about fam¬ ilies moving into the village from Brooklyn without proper medical in¬ spection during the epidemic of infan¬ tile paralysis. The Merrick Civic League has been investigating and finds reports s'lmewhat exaggerated. However, the League urges great watchfulness and absolute cleanliness and, also, that any children coming to the village be reported to Dr. G. Lind¬ say of Freeport, health deputy, for in-
only by a few inches. Had the child been injured or killed the operator of the car would undoubtedly have been filamed, though entirely without rea¬ son.
