The Captain talked readily to the Times reporter. Some of the Trustees anticipate he will reconsider his action but the Captain is known to be a man of nositive temperament, and many of his friends say he will not reconsider his action unless the Trusees adjust the matters peiuMng and stipulate that in future the bills of the Board of Health will be audited in the same manner as other village claims.

A chance to buy some building lots cheap is announced in the advertise¬ ment, "Sale in Bankruptcy," Henry C, Johnson, auctioneer, in this issue of the Review. Six building lots are of¬ fered for sale subject to liens, taxes and encumbrances, and will undoubted¬ ly be sold to the highest bidder.
Merrick's oldest, well-known and honored citizen, William Elijah Hew¬ lett, passed peacefully into rest after a month's confinement to his bed at his residence, the old Hewlett Homestead, on Friday afternoon last at 5 o'clock in the t^ath year of his age. The immed¬ iate cause of death was senile gang¬ rene, due to a hardening of the arter¬ ies.
Win. E. Hewlett's name has been long associated with that of Merrick and its best interests. The beautiful row of elms which has made Merrick Avenue famous throughout the Island, is due to his planting. A new record for aerial navigation in America was established at .Mineola Tuesday when Miss Harriet t^uimby, a well-known short story writer, gained the remarkable distinction of being the first woman to qualify for a flying machine pilot's license in tbis coun¬ try.
Before a committee of the Aero Club of America, Miss Quimby made a flight from the aviation field Tuesday morning in an American-made Bleiiot- iMoisant monoplane, and qualified in the essential requirements of a Hying machine pilot so weli that the mem¬ bera readily affixed their signatures to a license granting her the official per¬ mission to guide air craft through space as a member of the Aero Club of America.
Without much ceremony attending her attempt. Miss (Quimby climbed in¬ to the seat of her machine, soon had the engine started and was off. She

going around the villiige carrying a baby daughter or son on the handle bars, for instance, 1 am under the im¬ pression this is against the law, and if so the officers shuuid stop it at once. It is not an uncommon occurrence for a child to be killed or severely injured by being thrown from the bars when the wheel suddenly stops.
The East Norwich Enterprise says: "The most dangerous wild animal now at large in America is the road hug," declares the Louisville Courier- ,loiirnal. It hardly need be explained that the man in the automoliiio is the one meant. When the owner or the chauffeur of one of these machines is hoggish he is an extremely ditlicult customer to deal with. 'Ihe heavy farm wagons and large truck carry ng wagon."; are about the only vehicles which can meet the motor car on equal terms along country roads. Horse drawn wagons driven for pleasure or any other form of light vehicle is al¬ ways, or seem always, in danger of be¬ ing tossed to one side of the road. The hope is that motorists will come to re¬ alize that their manners are too fre¬ quently what they should not be."
Possibly, and quite probably, there is such a thing as a "road hog." For the last two weeks I have enjoyed rid¬ ing out considerably in a borrowed au¬ to, and I am of the opinion that the "road hog" travels in a wagon as fre¬ quently as in ap auto. Almost with-
