The base-ball game Saturday between the married men of Freeport and Rock¬ ville Centre drew quite a crowd to Athletic Park and cau.sed considerable merriment, although not a great suc¬ cess as a ball game. People storing large quantities of kerosene from the "Ppter Rickmers," the wrecked vessel at Short Beach, would do well to be very careful about fires. The cans may leak with serious results. See that they are not near any fire and look once in a while and see if any of the cans are leaking. The burn¬ ing of the Rickmers Tuesday afternoon and evening was a pretty sight but it was near enough without being repeat¬ ed.

The "Peter Rickmers" the big sail¬ ing vessel which went ashore at Short Beach, has gone up in smoke, only her burnt hulk now being visible. Early Tuesday morning a tug anchored along¬ side the Rickmers for a short while and about twelve o'clock smoke was ob¬ served pouring from the vessel's deck. Of course it was an accident, but it made a big blaze when the half-million gallons of op on the vessel became ig¬ nited. Explosions were heard through¬ out the afternoon and night, shaking the windows on the upland, five miles away.

Letter to 11. Barasch
FreejK>rt, N. Y. Dear Sir: A few years ago, a New York daily got-uji a great agitation for dollar gas and got it. The State passed the law and the people liked it, of ; course, till the bills came in. The bills were'^iigger, not less; the law didn't say what the gas should be.
The price of a gallon of honest paint is $1.75; but there's "paint" all the way from ;i5 cents to $1.75. A jiopu- lar price is $1.25; there are scores of "paints" at that price. Like dollar gas.
Ifv $1.75 is the price of a gallon ol honest paint, you may be (|uite sure there are scores of "paints" at all price.4 from that dov.'n, with paint enough in them to pass for paint. And what are you going to do alxjut it?
It takes fnmi $2 to $4 a gallon to pay the paint/.-r for doing his work. Is it worth while to pay $2 to $4 a gallon for brushing-on paint half whitewash? No; the expen.se of that extra and useless lalxir makes counterfeit paint cost more than true.
The remedy is Devoe. There are eight honest paints ;Devoe is the strong¬ est one of the eight.
Yours truly,
F. W. Devoe & Co. P. S. C. Milton Foreman eells our paint.
