Hook and Ladder Exhibition—This exhibition waa planned inosmuch o* the truck had no meana of competition and it was thought that they should be given the same chanee as other com¬ panies where they were willing to com¬ pete. ' Juat how to furnish an exhibi¬ tion that would be interesting waa fin¬ ally deviaed by ex-Foreman Milford VsnRiper of that Company and was practiced in secret. When the event Woefinally announced, the company ran a distance and at the end of the run took off tbeir 86-foot ladder, to which it was seen that a length of hose had been lashed, with a nozzle at the end. The ladder was raised in the air and rested against ita supporting poles wbile 0 squod of men connected anoth¬ er length of bose to the hydrant and wben tbe signal to tum on the water was given a stream of woter wss thrown from tlie end of tbe lodder S5 feet in the sir, the direction of the nozzle being controlled by ropes on the ground. This wos esgerly wotched not for its exhibition value but because it msy ot aome fntare dote ^ be the means of getting a lin* of hose nearer than men could get without any risks being token. Tho company was oword- ed o pancb bowl for the exhibition, doooted by W. MacFarlane.

The exhibition drill of Track 1 Mon¬ day afternoon, while it wa* interesting.' OS on exhibition, may alao prove of in¬ calculable value in fighting firea in our lorger buildings, ond the outcome of tbe test wos eagerly wotched. It would be possible to ploce this ladder,, with tbe hoae and nozzle ottachedr nearer to the building than men would be able to go on the ladder, or even if the building was so far gone it was impoesible to plsce s ladder against it; and the mean* devi*ed of controlling it from the ground make* it all the more valooble. Of coarae in larger places, where the fire fighting equipment in¬ cludes water towera, this scheme would not be used, but It looks a* thoogh for a village of volunteer fire fighter*, Freeport had, aa usual, showed the way. . The sportsmanlike spirit shown by Asst.
