'Theodore Smith, oyster watclimaii at tho Force Channel House at Sand Creek, was burned out of home two weeks ago Thursday. Me was eating his dinner when he looked up and .saw thu roof of his one-story domicile ablaze; the wind was blowing e.xcep- tionally hard that liay, and "Dory" had barely time to get out of the hou.se. Tills was one of the best eneines ever Jiut on tho market, as has heen dem¬ onstrated to us by soven years of con¬ tinuous uso of otie of tliem, and it is a mi.-,fortunt> that there was not enter- pHse sufiicient in this place to t'ontinue its marufacturo here. There was never any doubt ahout the success of the eiiteijiriso. hut there was no movo- ineiit made to put the engine mi the market ar.d ailvorii.-ie its merit. Ilo brought with him a beautiful pen and ink drawing birds' eye view yf Freeport, whicii shows every building in the village, on a sheet •lOx.'iO inches. The work .seems to have been arranged with great care, requiring as it does skill and patience. Mr. Hughes informs us eight months' ' time was put into the drawing and we can well believe it.
A view of this kind untioubtedly will be encourageii. In comparison to the i old one that was issued by the same ' firm lifteen years ago, it is interesting ; tti note the changes and grow lb of the \ Village. The view will be engraved on a large plate and published .-sometime ; this Spring.
