The new engine for Wide Awake En¬ gine (.^jmpany was tested last Saturday afternoon, and contrary Lo the predic¬ tions of a neighboring newspa|)er, a team of light horses was able to run around through the village with it at break-neck speed. Tests were made for time of getting up steam, throwing water through two lines of hose, aud the last test wRs for throwing water through 1000 ft. of hose, showing that the engine is well able to protei't the parts of the village where water mains are not yet laid. Steam was raised to 130 lbs. in a little over cS minutes.

The club was formed with twenty- five charter members and the following officers : President, Miss Wright; vice- prsident, Mrs. Jolui L'axter; secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Chas. Millbarik. The meetings arc to be held the second Tuesday of each month at 3 :L"j p. m.
The object of the club is the study of child nature and the problems of childhood. The membership is open to all mothers interested in this work.
