Time to Stop Playinii
The fires Tue.sday showed very plain¬ ly the Review's oft-repeated-conten¬ tion that the fire alarm is a poor thing to play with. There is absolute¬ ly no reason for blowing it as a six o'clock time notice, but someone started it and it keeps going. The Rockville Centre whistle was blowing for six o'clock at the same time and the firemen lost what might have been valuable time discussing ^whether the whistle waa for fire or the usual near- six o'clock whistle. We have talked with a number of firemen since the fire and all agree that it is time the Vil¬ lage Board put a stop to this "mon¬ keying with a buzz-saw."
Aid the Firemen
Do you realize the work of your vol¬ unteer firemen? Did you know that since January first these men have been called out a dozen times, in weath¬ er freezing cold and sweltering hot, and that they have not allowed one fire to get out of control, even while wen-king adverse circumstances? If you pay rent or own a house, do you ever stop to think how much this means ,in the matter of insurance premiums?
Next week, commencing Tuesday and continuing all the week, these fire laddies are to have a fair and carnival, as noted elsewhere. Why not show your appreciation by turning out and spending your money? You could hard¬ ly appropriate it more wisely; the fire¬ men are not an object of charity by any means but they need some money for expen.ses and you should give it to them. Let us see you all there-at least one night.
There will be attractions of every kind for everybody.
And by the way, Mrs. R. H. May- land, general chairman of the ladies' committee, will be glad to have you make a donation to the work of any of the various tables if you have not al¬ ready done so, especially for the Sup¬ per table. The articles may be sent to Mrs. Mayland at Bell Oaks; or infor¬ mation left at the Review office.
