EXPENSES OP FIRE UEPARTMENT
One nigbt recently I very foeliibly got into an argument with a prominent citizen of tbe village wbo thought that the citizena were very liberal to the Fire Department, and that the firemen ought to doly and troly appreciate wbat waa being done for them by Ibe reaidenta. Thoae who know my ideaa on thit tubject will certainly under¬ atand tbat I did not for a minute agree witb bim that the firemen were getting any ondoe favora.
Since that time I bave been think¬ ing it over, in view of bia remark tbat the fire department coat the village a big aum of money every year, and I find, aomewhat to my aurpriae, that | inatead of coating any taxpayer in the village, the fire department is a money aav%r, without any question, to any property owner in tbe village. You can eaeily figure this out for yourself, Council in fixing by looking at your tax bills. If you figare it out, say on a houae worth

EXPENSES OP FIRE UEPARTMENT One nigbt recently I very foeliibly got into an argument with a prominent citizen of tbe village wbo thought that the citizena were very liberal to the Fire Department, and that the firemen ought to doly and troly appreciate wbat waa being done for them by Ibe reaidenta. Thoae who know my ideaa on thit tubject will certainly under¬ atand tbat I did not for a minute agree witb bim that the firemen were getting any ondoe favora. Since that time I bave been think¬ ing it over, in view of bia remark tbat the fire department coat the village a big aum of money every year, and I find, aomewhat to my aurpriae, that inatead of coating any taxpayer in the village, the fire department is a money aav%r, without any question, to any property owner in tbe village. You can eaeily figure this out for yourself, Council in fixing by looking at your tax bills. If you figare it out, say on a houae worth Villajre Trustees The regular meeling of Ihe Villago Board of Truateea waa nol beld Friday evening becao le tbe membera wiabad lo attend Ihe achool meeting wbieb waa held the same evening. Adjournment was taken until Taea¬ day afternoon at 5 o'clock, wben all the membera were preaent except Truatee Sigmond. Truatee Myrick atated that Francia Broadnax. formerly engineer ef the \ illage in the Power Houae matter, had called him on the telephone at hia ofliice in New York and asked wheo tbo next meeting of the Board waa lo bo held and requeated tn bava bia bill brought up at that time. No action was taken. The matter of the appointment of a janitor for the fire houaea waa taken up. The advice oi Counsel waa tbat the Fire Council bad the power to ap¬ point, but that the Board of Truateea have the power of fixing tbe amount of the salary. Truatee Randall then made a motion, which waa carried, that the recommendation of the Firo the salary of Fire Department janitor at $60 per month, be approved. The Marcb meeting of the Arta Club of Freeport will be held at the home of Mra.XJharlea M. Hart, corner Weat Merrick Road and Bergen Place, nexl Monday. Mra. Jobn D. Gunning will be the chairman of the day and tbe topic will be "Charch and Modern Life." 'While working on one of the tele¬ phone polea on Seaman Avenae Mon¬ day.
