The Brooklyn Professionals were a strong team. Most of the players were former big leaguers and knew the inside of the game. An alarm of fire called out the fire¬ men sliorlty after 4 o'clock Monday af¬ ternoon, when it was learned that the residence of Thomas Johnson, a brake- man employed on the Long Beach Di¬ vision, was ablaze. The house, which is a oiip-story bungalow, located on Denton Avenue, with its contents waa a total loss, although the liremen re- Hjxmded with their usual jiromptness, and especially so in this occasion as the firemen were holding a fair on Atlantic Avenue at the same time. The fire hud gained such headway before it was (liscovered, however, that it was im- jiossible to save the building or any of the furniture, amounting to anything. The loss will exceed fifteen hundred dollars, and it is not known if there is any insurance on the building or con¬ tents.
