Golden Eagles Are County Champs Again
Bethpage Defends Only Loss of Year with Win over Wantagh: Faces Islipfor LI Championship
The Bethpage High School Varsity
Golden Eagles football team won their
15th County title this past weekend,
defeating rival Wantagh 20-12 in the
Nassau Class III Championship game at
Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University. No.
2 ranked Bethpage (9-1) avenged their
only loss of the year in beating the top-ranked
Warriors. They will square off
against Suffolk Class III Champion Islip
this Saturday at Stony Brook University's
LaValle Stadium, beginning at 12 noon for
the Class III Long Island Championship.
The Golden Eagles were led by the
running of Kevin Glueckert, who finished
with 140 rushing yards. Kevin capped his
strong performance with a 37-yard touchdown
run late in the fourth quarter to seal
the victory for Bethpage. Kevin had a 10-
yard touchdown run earl ier in the game.
Quarterback Greg Miller began the scoring
for Bethpage with a four-yard touchdown
run in the second quarter. Bethpage kicker
Rob Cafiero was 2 for 3 on extra-point
kicks.
