A Trip Down Memory Lane!
Looking Back at Our Home in 1967
The original Photonews building was located along side of the present New Media Printing Building at 329
Broadway. Many referred to it as the barn. Although the address remains the same today the barn no longer
remains.
This room was used to opague negatives during
the photo process in newspaper production. In 1967 this was a state of the art font setter machine.
The year was 1967, exactly forty
years ago. The place was Photonews
(now New Media Printing). Judy
Lombardi of the Hicksville Chamber of
Commerce was kind enough to send
these pictures which have real historical
and sentimental significance to the
Tribune. These fabulous pictures taken
of Photonews take us back to a time
when the Tribune was a mere 4 years old
and when Photonews was and eager and
growing ten years old. Back then the
Tribune, as well as the scores of other
newspapers and periodicals, was done
predominantly by hand. The machinery
of the day, although then state of the art,
was a far cry from the technology which
exists in the building today.
Over the years Photonews has
employed hundreds of Bethpage residents
and has also been home to the
Bethpage Tribune since our founder
Florence Cullem published her first edition
in 1963!
Today New Media Printing is a
leader in the printing and mailing industry
and uses state of the art computer
technology to print and design a variety
of newspapers, brochures, newsletters,
journals, posters and many other products.
And yes...we are happy to say that
329 Broadway is still the place that the
Tribune calls home. Although the name
has changed, as too has the technology a
few things have remained the same and
that is New Media's commitment to
quality and service as well as the talent
and dedication of all their employees.
Things look alot different after 40
years but it is nice to see that some
things have stayed the same!
The assembly line which made up the team of talented
paste up artists forty years ago.
The inserting room circa 1967. Note the hand
prints on the walls.
Louie, a young 83 year old who walked to
work every day and made sure everything
as tidy as possible.
