Bethpage HS Student Civic Spreads Holiday Cheer to Those in Need
BHS Student Civic members stuffed teddy bears and gave them to the children
at Bethany House in Roosevelt. The Association gave a holiday party with
gifts, dinner and refreshments for the children and their mothers before
Christmas.
The Bethpage High School
Student Civic Association was
actively engaged in ending 2007 on a
positive note. The student organization
conducted a Turkey Coupon
Drive for Thanksgiving. More than
20 coupons for turkeys were collected
from students, faculty and parents
benefiting the Gerald Ryan Outreach.
In addition students were able to
present a $500 check to the outreach
center thanks to the profit made from
Student Civic's annual gourmet coffee
drive. The top fundraisers were
TJ Hynes, Michael Natalie and
Simon Jambrone.
Student Civic members also
attended the annual Marty Lyons
Holiday Party at the Huntington
Hilton. The 26 Bethpage High
School students helped to make
some difficult days pleasurable for
many terminally ill children.

The student organization also lent
its helping hands to Bethany House
of Roosevelt - a shelter for mothers
and their children. The organization
purchased 50 Teddy Bears to place
on the beds of the children. A party
was also held for the children on
December 21s t at Bethany House
with the help of the Student Civic
Association. In attendance were students
Alyssa Damiani, May Syeda,
Sandhya Kasturi, 2003 graduate
Reena Vanjani, and Student Civic
Advisor Jackie Jill Rito. "The children
of Bethany House were
absolutely stunned at the sandwiches,
the angel cake, refreshments and
bears the students brought them,"
said Ms. Rito, who organizes the
annual Student Civic Talent Show
which will be held this year on
February 11 at Bethpage High
School. This year's show will also
benefit Bethany House.
The Student Civic Association would
like to give special thanks to April
Pastore for her generous donations of
toys, the Bethpage School District's
Business office and all others who
lent their support, including Anna
Lamendola.
Additionally, Student Civic members
sacrificed their to time serve the
homeless and the disenfranchised on
Christmas Eve day and Christmas
Day at the Mercy Inn Soup kitchen.
Some family members even decided
to participate this year. The Mangano
and Cotton families joined Bethpage
graduate Reena Vanjani,, students
May Syeda , Rebecca Trebitz, Jen
Lombardo, Diana Delio, Marelissa
Simon Jambrone, TJ Hynes, Michael Natalie, three top Gourmet Coffee sellers
for BHS Student civic coffee drive present a $500,00 check to Charlie Cicio
for the Gerald Ryan Outreach Center to help during the holidays.
BHS Student Civic student dresses as cartoon character and entertains the
children from the Marty Lyons Foundation Holiday Party on 12/17 at the
Huntington Hilton.
The Cotton and Mangano families lent their support to the Mercy Soup
Kitchen on Christmas.

experience in having fun while helping
others," added Ms. Rito. "In the
true spirit of giving, everyone should
be thanked for a wonderful year and
we look forward to doing so much
more in 2008...changing lives one at
a time."
