THE LITTLE TOWN THAT COULD
Bethpage 's First Relay for Life Raises Over $133,000 to Help Fight Cancer
Over1200 people took to the track and joined the Relay for Life Fight against cancer.
Luminary bags spelled out the true meaning of this event...HOPE.
WE DID IT and the community of
Bethpage should take great pride in knowing
that TOGETHER we all made a difference.
Bethpage's first Relay for Life ,
which took place on June 2 was an unbe-ievable
and indescribable event that
attracted over 1200 people and raised over
$133,000 and counting.
There really is no way to explain what
happened at Bethpage High School last
Saturday other than to say it was pure
magic. So many residents, organization
and clubs came together with one goal in
mind and that was raising money to help
in the fight against cancer.
And there are many, many people to
thank for making sure that this event got
off the ground. In fact there are too many
people to mention, however, we must
thank the Bethpage School District for
standing behind this event from the very
beginning and most of all for coming out
and taking part in it.
I doubt very much if anyone who took
part in Relay 2007 will ever forget it. It is
safe to say that it was one of the most
memorable nights that I can ever remember
and it was a night that made me so
proud to be a part of this wonderful community.
Bethpage is a special place.
Congratulations to everyone who
helped out, pitched a tent, walked a lap,
served a hot dog, played music, danced,
carried a banner, lit a luminary bag, registered
walkers, sold t-shirt and made a dif-ference.
Bethpage is the little town that
could and WE DID!! (More pix in center).
Next week we will be featuring
more pictures from Relay as well as an
update on the amount Bethpage was
able to raise as funds are still coming in!
Supervisor John Venditto, who was big help with this event, poses
with students from SPEC (Students Putting an End to Cancer) and
their advisor Ms. Scuderi, as well as Relay committee members and
elected officials before the start of the event.
A celebration oflifc.a celebration of hope... a celebration of making a
difference. All Photos by Kevin lmm More photos in centerfold
