A Wonderful Tribute to Veterans
Bethpage Fire Department Comes to the Resque and Hosts Memorial Day Service at Station 4
Without the use of the Bethpage
Community Park, members of the
Bethpage Memorial Day Parade
Committee found themselves in some
what of a bind in securing a sight for their
annual Memorial Day Service. Thanks to
the Bethpage Fire Department their worries
were answered and the 2007
Memorial Day parade was a wonderful
tribute to all those who served our country.
This years parade was bigger and yes,
better than ever in spite of all of the obstacles
that the committee faced. Residents
flocked to the streets to pay tribute to the
brave men and women who through the
years have served our country to insure
our freedom.
School groups, civic and community
groups, elected officials and even an classic
car or two made this parade one that
residents in Bethpage will not likely forget,
thanks to the hard work and dedication
of the Bethpage Memorial Day
Parade Committee and the Bethpage Fire
Department.
After the lengthy and impressive
parade, a wreath placing ceremony was
held at the Bethpage Fire House Station 4,
where community groups placed wreaths
in honor of our Veterans. A special tribute
was then bestowed on Vito DeFanis, who,
for many, many years chaired the
Memorial Day Parade Committee. He and
his wife were honored for their years of
service to Bethpage and our annual
parade.
The parade committee and the residents
of Bethpage should indeed be proud
of this year's parade as we certainly exemplified
why we are forever thankful to our
Veterans and why it is so important to
remember never to forget.
